We can and should use the transfer portal to fill in gaps, but we need to get the talent pipeline restored, It really fell off from '22 through '24.

UM Football Recruiting - by WM Wolverine

This is a sticky topic.

The Harbaugh dalliance with the NFL that carried on in the time frame Hanni mentions was a major contributor to the difficulties M had in signing top recruits. M also didn't have their shit together with NIL until a solid collective was formed within the last year. Bryce Underwood's commitment is reflective of M's large scale involvement in the post-NIL CFB world. Winning still attracts top recruits combined with NIL. M's win over OSU on Saturday was a big deal in the recruiting department. M is "ascending" (a frequently used JH characterization involving players and programs) in the CFB recruiting process.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

Michigan's NIL issues held them back from recruiting the blue-chip types (top 75 overall) that were getting 6 figures from the SEC programs. Michigan was quite confident they were going to get one of CJ Carr, Dante Moore but other schools were giving out NIL signing bonuses and Michigan had no backup plans when both of them went elsewhere...
M's offensive style hurts their ability to recruit receivers, landing a 5-star receiver every year or 2 would've made JJ look like a much better QB than he generally showed...
After the top 100 overall recruits where NIL plays a smaller factor, Michigan has recruited quite well other than the above OL, WR, QB issues.

DE Nate Marshall has flipped BACK to Michigan, after decommitting from Michigan in August and committing to Auburn. He now says he is "100% Michigan" and he said his connection to Michigan was too strong to ignore. He's the #85 player in the country and the #18 Edge

In the "I'll bet you didn't see this one coming" category:

Chase Herbstreit, (Yes, that Herbstreit family) has committed to Michigan for the class of '25.
He's a 6'2 195 QB .
He'll likely ride the pine for most of his career, but I figured all his kids would go to OSU if they wanted to play college ball."The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, .. I'd worn them for weeks, and they needed the air"

I have been informed on another site that Herbstreit has 2 boys that are twins, but the debate rages there whether the "twins" went to OSU or Clemson.
So, the scorecard so far is:
2 Herbstreits to Clemson
1 Herbstreit to OSU
1 Herbstreit to Michigan.

Maybe these Ohio guys here know for sure."The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, .. I'd worn them for weeks, and they needed the air"
