  • I knew this one was coming ......

4-star QB commit Carter Smith from Ft. Meyers Florida has DE-committed from Michigan tonight. Most likely due to all the flirtations with Underwood, who has NOT flipped from LSU, and has shown NO SIGNS of flipping from LSU.

Way to go guys! Keep scaring off the future. Now we have no QB committed for 25, and its ENTIRELY POSSIBLE that Underwood will STAY with LSU.

    Just stupid. Incredibly stupid.

    Brady Hart is next?

BTW, Smith has thrown for over 1,000 yards this season, and ran for another 400 yards. I think the stat board I read said he has 25 touchdowns.

Nah .. we can't use a kid like that ....

      • Or maybe some of that NIL money that's being offered to Bryce wasn't being offered to Smith?

        • What SHOULD have happened

If they really want Underwood, they should have made him the 'big' NIL offer about a 2 weeks ago.

Then give him 48 hours to flip, and accept.

If he failed to respond in 48 hours, pull the offer and stick with the guys you got

If we would have lost Smith AFTER Underwood "flipped" , then his de-commit would have been no big deal.

Instead, they've fhimmed and hawed, and tinkered around with the offer to Underwood, dragging it out, .. and now they lost Smith.

And they're not guaranteed to get Underwood. Remember, every time Underwood has been asked about flipping to Michigan, his response has been a laugh.

          Such a bungled up mess

I think M would be well served to make sure they keep this kid committed instead of spending so much time on Underwood.

            But that's just me.

            • MHSAA State Playoffs

              Score from last night:

              Detroit Catholic Central 35 .... Belleville 21

              Why is this significant?

Michigan's "potential" 10 Million dollar quarterback lost.

              ----

I've said all along. This kid is good, even a very good QB. But he's not superman.

How does anyone, (including LSU) expect this kid to beat Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State and/or Oregon if he can't beat Detroit Catholic Central?

To put that kind of pressure on a true freshman QB is unreasonable, I don't care who he is.

              ---

The 10 million that M wants to throw at Underwood would be better spent elsewhere.

              IMO

                    • For those unaware, Biff Poggi was fired this week as the HC at Charlotte. Poggi was an assistant at Michigan under Brady Hoke, and also Jim Harbaugh.

IIRC, Poggi was in charge of linebackers while in A2. He was also a very close friend of Sherrone Moore.

Poggi is going to be in Ann Arbor this weekend to watch the M vs NW game.

I'd say we should expect that he will be on Michigan's staff in '25. Not sure who he will replace, but I'm sure some assistants are not going to be retained.

                      • I don't recall Poggi as an impact coach. He obviously fell flat trying to run Charlotte's football program - different beast. Can't be too excited about a potential return of Poggi to M's coaching staff.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                        • Quickly going through mgoboard to get a take from that crowd on hiring Poggi. I found this post that seems to clarify his value if he's hired:

I think we should all be ecstatic at the possibility of Biff coming back. By all accounts, he was instrumental in Harbaugh's turnaround (and by extension, Michigan's) over the last three years. I can't recall the quote so I'm very highly paraphrasing here, but I believe Harbaugh said somewhere along the way that Biff really helped him find the joy in coaching again. I think the 2019-2020 seasons really weighed him down, and by the time 2021 came around you could just see Harbaugh was different. He'd lost a lot of weight and was much more back to his quirky, jovial self. He credited Biff with a lot of that.

To have a presence like that back in Schembechler Hall would be absolutely critical for Sherrone. No, he wouldn't fix every issue plaguing the program right now. But having his services would be a big step in the right direction for Sherrone's own development as a head coach.

If Jim Harbaugh, who was already a vastly successful coach at the college and NFL level found value in having Biff on staff, then so can Sherrone.

I wasn't aware of the role he played in helping JH geet back on track. Interesting.

                          • Some guys are good HC's and some are better off as assistants. That could be the case for Poggi. Anyway, it wouldn't be surprising to me if Poggi and Moore come to a handshake agreement this weekend (not publicized) for Poggi to return in '25. Who he replaces will depend on who leaves or is fired.

If Poggi can help mentor Moore a bit, I say bring him on. It can't hurt.

In other news, Don Brown was fired this week as HC at U Mass. I doubt he'll be visiting AA any time soon.

                            • Michigan flipped a CB from Pitt today, who is a team mate of Bryce Underwood at Belleville.

Lots of M slappys are taking this as an indication that Underwood is about to flip to Michigan. This makes no sense at all. Underwood didn't consider flipping to Pitt when his team mate was committed there. Why would he flip to Michigan just because his friend changed his mind?

Underwood has already stated that he will be in Baton Rouge on December 2nd, to register for the winter semester at LSU.

I hope Underwood does what he said he will do. Have a fine career at LSU.
