True we could get outbid. But we'd at least win our share of those guys. We should at least be competitive NIL-wise with OSU. It sounds like we aren't.

A lot is going to depend on how this NCAA thing works out with Harbaugh. We'll likely know by March what is ultimately going to happen to him. Depending on the severity of the penalty handed down, he may not even be the coach next season. He may just tell the NCAA to 'bite me' and move on back to the NFL. He's flirted that for several years now, and that may be the grease on the rails to get him to go. If that happens, the next coach is going to have to deal more with the NIL problem. So far, they've been able to make up for a few recruiting deficiencies via the portal. If that continues, M may not have to change a lot for NIL. But if the portal goes kaput, then the downfall begins.
As I understand the NIL situation at Michigan, they don't make any deals with athletes, until they actually start school. No money/deals up front. I'm not sure what other schools are doing.
I'm wondering if some of these recruiting deals are telling kids, "Hey, if it doesn't work out for you at *____ University*, get into the portal, and we'll have a conversation""in order to lead America you must love America"

The Portal (and other issues) only gets resolved when the SEC and B10 finally consolidate power then agree to collectively bargain with the athletes. That's it.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

I'm hoping that Michigan's good fortune in the portal so far will continue, rather than dry up. Its helped to shore up the shortcomings of recruiting.
ITA regarding the portal. Its here to stay, but the window for jumping in may be reduced, IMO."in order to lead America you must love America"

Count me generally disinterested in CFB given the current landscape. I'm not hawking the sports press like I have up until the coming 2023 season to learn about M football. I'm going to be in Ann Arbor for 2 games (Bowling Green and Rutgers) but I can actually say M football is not the reason I'm going there. Instead it's to visit my son and his kids, 3 of my 12 grandchildren. M football is a mere entertaining something to do on Saturdays. For most of the 2023 CFB season, I'm traveling, not planning my time around M football - that's a first.
The little I have read indicates that the consolidation of CFB into two leagues is underway and will culminate at some point looking a lot like the NFL but with two divisions instead of eight and 36 teams instead of 32. Certainly the B10 and SEC will be the cornerstones of the two leagues. It's still too early in the consolidation process to say who's in whose not but it's beyond a doubt that the current membership of the Big and SEC (and probably including programs that are leaving the PAC12) are in. Revenue sharing and inter-league scheduling proposals that are ultimately finalized will, at some point, decide the make-up and structure of the two leagues, either 18 members each or some other number of them TBD. The CFB play-off structure will fall in place after the make-up of the two leagues is finalized. But it's a good guess that it will have more than the 12 teams that are already a done deal starting in 2025.
I'd guess the process of consolidation will be a two to three year deal synchronized, to the extent possible, with broadcast rights contracts expiring and being renewed. So, time to just sit back and enjoy some popcorn.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.
