  • Thoughts on St. Clair, and Ryan Montgomery?

Bryce Underwood's NIL figure will probably put him in the SEC instead of being a M vs Ohio State battle.

    • Davis had a bad second day at Elite 11 I guess that's the day the Pros (throwing to receivers without defenders) watch for. Having said that I was never overly impressed by his film, not fast, throwing motion is a little loopy, His strengths are making good decisions and command of the offense - if he has that he should be ok.

On the other hand, RB Marshall was already in the top 100, but he moved up over 40 spots to No. 31 overall — which is within potential five-star range should he remain there.

Not great, but not bad. But yet 'bad' enough for 73 other players to pass him. Good thing he didn't finish 7th.
Should have read “didn’t finish ranked in the top 5”. My apologies. Just got out of the eye doctor, but 6th is middling. Like you said, “not great/not bad.”

I can’t/won’t answer for ON3. 247 is the only service that means anything (imo). In that, he is the 6th best QB in the class. I did read on the M site that other M recruits had risen the rankings.

Love St. Clair (plays against shit competition is his only knock). Like Montgomery a lot (same competition issue). Would LOVE both, but that’s unlikely. They’re still recruiting Montgomery for sure, but CRD made is preference known.

Love Underwood. I’ve read the same thing on NIL. That’d be too bad for M because I’d think M is the favorite all else being equal.

Ohio State is now way more NIL competitive after getting assjacked last cycle. And other schools are coming back to “sustainability” instead of aTm bullshit. M really needs to in the “competitive” range. They need a complete NIL program that gets enough upfront money out the door and highlights huge earning opportunities while at M. Ideally guys like Corum, McCarthy and Edwards are signing huge deals.

But, I was absolutely wrong on OSU. I thought they were surely fucked, but they are not. They may still lose out to schools that “overpay” (someone like Marquis Lightfoot), but they’ll be competitive for someone like Dylan Stewart when S. Carolina throws gads of money at him.

            • A follow on point is that M was way ahead of other teams on the portal. Part of that was need, but they’ve done a great job supplementing the roster. And, that’s part of recruiting these days.

OSU was very much behind. They didn’t want to risk losing “star recruits”. But, this cycle they added a couple players who could really make a difference. If that happens then they’ll be more aggressive.

But, again, you have to factor in the portal additions when looking at overall “who have you added to the roster.”

              • Michigan's top 4 class in recruiting, they’d still be top 4 if removed every 3 star

                • Heh. Most team rankings only count to 20 and/or diminish value as you more players. M has so many recruits right now that only high 4* or better are gonna really move the needle. That’s why schools with 16-18 commits can make a much bigger move (and will)

                  • M needed the portal additions due to near Sparty-level recruiting in previous classes, though I think they over-recruited the OL position. I suspect they won't be quite as heavy in the portal going forward... M made huge strides in NIL but it's mostly available to the players while they are in the program, not a signing bonus when they sign their LOI.

                    • 247 Team Talent ranking for the last 8 National Champions (this is the sum of recruiting rankings for the players).

2022: Georgia, #2 in the 247 Team Talent Composite
2021: Georgia, #2 in the 247 Team Talent Composite
2020: Alabama, #2 in the 247 Team Talent Composite
2019: LSU, #5 in the 247 Team Talent Composite
2018: Clemson, #6 in the 247 Team Talent Composite
2017: Alabama, #1 in the 247 Team Talent Composite
2016: Clemson, #9 in the 247 Team Talent Composite
2015: Alabama, #1 in the 247 Team Talent Composite

I would go back further, but that’s all I could easily find. I’ve seen this done before going back to the beginning of the BCS and the results were eerily similar.

So, doing the math in my head, that’s an average Team Talent (sum of all schools’ team recruiting rankings) of top 4 in the nation (check my math).

                      Or…

-5 of 8 of the champions finished either #1 or #2 in recruiting talent.
                      -7 of the 8 were top 6.
-0 teams finished #10 or lower.

In order to create the most comprehensive Team Recruiting Ranking without any notion of bias, 247Sports Team Recruiting Ranking is solely based on the 247Sports Composite Rating.

The evidence is solid that recruiting rankings are extremely important. Can you find outliers or anecdotal examples of an individual player who did phenomenal and was a 3-star going in or did shitty and was a 5-star arriving on campus? Sure. But anecdotal examples are, well, anecdotal.

Anyway, thanks for listening to my TED talk.

                              • Well, I'm glad to see WM settled all that.

Jadyn Davis = John O'Korn. And if the recruiting services have their way, he'll get close to Dave Cone territory. He's horrible.

And Michigan isn't going undefeated in the regular season. I'll put money on that right now. Someone is going to trip them up.
