I already posted roster rankings for every CFP team since 2015. It was not well-received. When Liney gets called on unsupportable positions the response is generally absurd, and so here we are.

It’s worth noting, again, the roster strength predicted M would go 13-1 against the 14 teams they played last year. It’ll predict 11-1 for 2023. So, this idea that “M sucks” based on recruiting rankings is odd. Recruiting rankings predict 11-1. Maybe that sucks. I dunno, Seems pretty good to me.

    • How do you know AA's link was not well received? Nobody else commented about it. I chose to ignore it because I already knew what it said. Maybe the rest of the folks here like it and just chose not to say anything. Maybe they love it.

I've supported my belief about recruiting rankings very well. They're not always accurate. No need to cover it all again.

      • Not too many left on the board - Belleville (MI) four-star Jeremiah Beasley announces today. He was considered a Sparty lock at one time, Michigan has gained ground with Clinkscale and Partridge heavily recruiting him. Michigan needs this in-state recruit and keep him away from EL.

        • Seems like M to me.

Beasely, Uni, Rudolph, Scott, Scott and maybe 1 or 2 more? I dunno. Those would be the players M seems to have the best chance with to round out their class.

          • Would like to get WR Gatlin Bair also, though he's going on 2 year LDS. Woodson tweeting to Scott can't hurt.

Its not that big of a deal.

His measureables are he's 6'1" and 210, which is very small for a linebacker. He might actually get a look at Safety with that size.

Also, he's rated the #319 player in the country, which as we've learned in here, is not a good ranking. Michigan needs to sign more in the top 50 - 100 to really make any difference, and to challenge for national titles. Our good friends down south would never be interested in talent this weak.

Its a "meh" commitment. Just like most of all the rest of the '24 class.

                        • And he's only #318 NOW....just imagine how low he'll go because he just recruited to M. As we all know, the recruiting rags will put Michigan as low as they possibly can, and still maintain an iota of credibility. Because, Michigan. So, expect him to be a low 3* very, very soon. Suprised it hasn't happend already given how much the recruiting rags hate M.

It's all irrelevant, though -- because I don't think the recruiting rankings are an accurate indicator [of] future successes.

                          • Well said.

I'd imagine that once he (if he) actually signs a LOI, he'll be somewhere in the mid 400's. And that 4-star rating is toast. He's definitely headed to a weak 3-star rating. Because, Michigan.

And even if none of that happens, everyone knows that you cannot sign players that are accurately ranked at over 300, and expect to challenge for national championships. Just no freaking way. You can only challenge for NC's by signing players that are in the top 100, and actually even moreso in the top 50. Everything else is just fodder for the teams that actually win those championships.

And finally, a linebacker.. in the Big Ten... playing at 210 lbs? Come on now. Position switch upcoming. If he even cracks the lineup. He's likely a portal candidate after one year.

                            • If anything, the recruiting rags bump a player up a bit if he goes to Michigan (or any blue blood). If the offers are MSU, Michigan, Rutgers, Illinois, and the guy is a mid to upper 3*, it's far more likely he gets his 4th star once they "see more film" or whatever. But if he goes to MSU, Rutgers, or Illinois, he stays a middling 3*.

They people doing the ratings and running subscription sites know where their bread is buttered.

As for Beasley, stealing a good recruit from Sparty is always a plus-1. We get a good player, and they are weakened in the process.

                              • Jadyn Davis is gonna fall a lot, but that's something both WM and I knew was going to happen. He'll be the one M recruit that noticeably drops and, honestly, deservedly so. He's absolutely not a 5*.

The thing about the M offer or OSU offer or UAT offer is that the recruiting services pay more attention to the kid in terms of the evaluation. These days you have so many camps where you can actually look at kids and so many 7vs7 shit where you can look at kids and the QB camps/Elite 11 where you can look at kids -- that these services have a way better knowledge base in assessing a kid than they did in, say, 1998.

I still think OL are the hardest to assess. I still think WR/DB are the easiest to assess (e.g., it's zero suprise to me that Dax Hill and then Will Johnson were very good very early).

Anyway, during the process they continually refine their assessments based on new data. Most of the time the ups/downs are small.
