Considering he rarely talked to the media, I don't think he was doing it for attention but was truly undecided. Sam Webb said some time ago, he was just going to show up on one of the campus rather than make an announcement. That's exactly what he did, everyone else in the media is what make this a 'show.'

M needed these numbers badly with the seniors graduating in '16/'17. The 'numbers' are plenty though no ideal NT, I don't see the need to add a DT just to add one, it'd need to be someone that's talented enough to play.

I said this early in the week when I commented here what a laugher all this Najee Harris shit was. Not talking (if that is indeed how it worked v. selective talking to create the circumstances his people wanted to create), Harris found a unique way to fuck with fans and both programs that appeared to be at the top of his list.

Frankly, I think it was an innovative way for Harris and his people to get all the attention they wanted and ultimately got. For those that bought in to the Harris to M bullshit, I feel sorry for them ...... well, actually I don't. Those people were pawns in the Harris plan.

I don't think anyone here bought into the Harris to M BS one bit despite the trolling from AA attempting to get solid M fans that post here to buy into that Harris and company creation.

Harris was legitimately interested in M, but he never once suggested he wasn't interested in Alabama. And that's where he wanted to play initially.

In any event, when you go after those kind of players you're going to be recruiting against really strong competition, whether it be Alabama or a hometown team or whatever. It's hard to win those top 50 battles. You're going to lose a lot more than you win.

Dunno -- if Harris really wanted attention he could have gotten more by being more conventionally attention-grabbing about it. This is a real bummer though. I wish we'd gotten him. Superfrustrating.

Deshawn Hand (he's a backup at Bama) hurt a lot too at the time, yet M has done very well at defensive end the past couple seasons... It was thought to be devastating but he'll be a senior already this upcoming season and he wouldn't have faired much better with M's depth chart than Bama's..

Everyone is 'replaceable' in recruiting if you recruit well behind them.

I think that is both discouraging and frustrating for program's like M's that are trying to overcome two decades of mediocrity if not down-right suck in the last decade.

Getting the best HS football players into your program if you aspire to the CFP and a shot at the NC has become incredibly important and the numbers just don't lie.

It also highlights how good Alabama under Saban and to lesser extent osu under ufm are. Seems that Saban arguably had a hell of lot more suck to overcome after Shula than ufm had when he arrived at osu following tressel.

It also demonstrates how hard it is for M/Harbaugh, USC/Helton, Clemson/Sweeney, FSU/Fisher, Washington/Peterson (programs with the capacity it seems to challenge) to get there when Alabama and osu are cleaning up ahead of everyone else. i.e., the rich just get richer.
