Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.
MSU wouldn't make much sense in the West, except for competitive balance. And they wouldn't provide a lot of that. It just so happens that the conference is going to have to accept a lack of competitive balance and the East team winning the CCG 7 years out of 10.
Sparty will be Westward bound along with either IN or Purdue once we find a dance partner for UVA. That's going to be another Eastern school, for sure.
Sigh. If only the Irish would quit fucking around and join...
Sparty has mentioned it wanted to be in the west yet they previously also stated they wanted to be wherever M is too and its long been assumed M would be in the east with Ohio...
This setup imo is the way it is to prevent OOD rivalry games, other than Indiana/Purdue. I don't see very many significant rivalries lost with this setup. I'll miss playing Illinois from the west but that is about it, it would be nice to play Nebraska more frequently though M will get to play PSU every year, a rivalry I've grown to like.
preserved so that we can keep playing the Brown Jug game
You can't be serious. I don't remember the Little Brown Jug game ever being relevant and I'm pushing 60.
I don't care that it's nationally relevant as much as that it's an extremely old tradition that is worth keeping, in a sport that is flushing traditions down the toilet at an alarming rate. If you don't play that game, then it will probably be replaced with a completely charmless game, unless it's Nebraska. Given that we have to play OSU, MSU, and Penn State every year, I don't want to play Nebraska, unless we start making OOC schedules like Kansas State does. It's a warm fuzzy reminder of the game's roots. Plus, I like the fact that we always kick Minnesota's ass. I'd much rather see us play Minny every year than rotate the game.

If we have to have a OOD rivalry game, hopefully it's Minnesota. But with the east, east setup there is little need for OOD rivalry games. Yes, some rivalries are played less often but with a 9-game schedule, they'd play the Gophers 4 out of every 9 years if my math is correct. Pre Maryland, Nebraska, Rutgers; the Gophers were heading off the schedule for a couple years so it's clearly not a high priority rivalry.
If I'm not mistaken the Jug that is played for in the Minnesota-M game is the oldest existing "trophy" in CFB. Tons of history in that.
Sadly, none of that seems to actually matter anymore. Lip service will be payed to it by the deciders but that is about all.

It's a rivalry that none of my friends are even aware of, none of my friends are even aware that we (Minn & M) play for a trophy each season. It's might've been a rivalry in the 30's 40's 50's, 60's but now all we do is play for a trophy, which we still can just not as often.
Are your friends not Michigan fans? If they are, I don't see how they couldn't be aware of it, since the sideline reporter describes the tradition each year, and they make a point of unboxing the trophy and showing it off at the end of the game. There's even a restaurant named after the trophy.
I hope that DB will try and keep it on the schedule every year. Who knows, if the asshole thinks that he can increase the department's revenue by .03% by selling a few T-shirts with the jug on it, his tunnelvision might finally work in our favor.
