Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski is worried about the future of the Atlantic Coast Conference in the wake of Maryland's departure.

"I think the ACC is vulnerable right now, I'm concerned about our conference," Krzyzewski said on Monday afternoon, taping a segment for his Basketball and Beyond show on Sirius XM Radio. The show will air on Wednesday night.

When a guest asked Krzyzewski if he'd prefer Louisville or Connecticut to replace Maryland, which announced its departure for the Big Ten on Monday, Krzyzewski said before he could answer that he'd wanted to get everyone in a room and "close ranks and see who's still here."

Krzyzewski added: "I think there could still be some movement in our conference."

As for Maryland as a road trip...well, I don't expect from the actual game atmosphere, but you can spend a long weekend in DC as part of the trip. You can take the Metro straight to campus. Stadium is a little more than a mile from the station.

This board suggests that the BOT, the Presidents, the AD's, and Delaney are all horribly incompetent and simply aren't as informed about the numbers and situation as posters here.

I'm sure that the executives at Coca-Cola felt very good about New Coke too. And Gene Smith was 100% sure that OSU wouldn't get a bowl ban. According to you, those decisions were self-validating because people with decision making power made them.

But you're right. Worthless shit programs like Maryland and Rutgers that have never generated money for anyone else and who have AD revenues at the Purdue level will magically transform into financial powerhouses overnight, because areas of the country that don't care about college football will suddenly catch interest because Maryland plays Ohio State instead of Florida State.

Maryland's move was unanimously approved by every B1G10 school. That includes the Presidents, the AD's, the BOT's at Michigan, at Nebraska, at wherever.

Unanimous vote as in Stalinist USSR, Mao's China, and Goofy Guy North Korea? Dozens of opinions and nary a dissent? That doesn't pass the smell test. A sad, sad day for the conference.

Everyone talks about how this is inevitable because college football is a business. Fine. What happens when the big donors start treating college football like a business? Has anyone ever noticed that businesses don't have "donors"? They have "investors". People who expect to get more money back out than they get in. Nobody gives $10 Million to their university because they expect to get $20 Million back out.

Maryland and Rutgers have never had the cash or the conference affiliation to succeed on the level of program like Iowa. There's really no reason they can't be built up to that. I don't expect it to happen overnight but if you had asked if Rutgers could ever have a routine bowl team in the late 90's, you would have said no. If you'd have asked if Boise State could be a national title contender in 2000 you would've been laughed at.

Even if the numbers are only a 1/3 of what they are predicting, every team will still come out ahead.

Since much of this seems to be in collusion with Fox or other networks then yes. I do have faith that they know what the fuck they are talking about. Certainly more faith than I have in nameless internet posters who, if they'd have had their way 20 years ago, would've told Penn State to go to hell

The fact that so many people swallow these numbers without question is absolutely terrifying. He is saying that Rutgers and Maryland, by themselves are worth as much as the entire Big East conference, and that each of them are worth more than double an average Big Ten team. If you add Nebraska and Texas together, you get a number roughly equal to (or maybe even exceeding) what the Big 12 generated as a whole conference a couple of years ago. If you add the four of them together, you come up with a number only slightly less than the entire Big Ten distribution of $300MM. In other words, he is saying that a conference consisting of Texas, Nebraska, Rutgers, and Maryland is worth about 90% the current 12 team Big Ten. LMAO

Spot on. And I agree that just because private-sector CEOs go on acquisition sprees doesn't mean it's a good idea. It very often is not. That's said plenty by lotsa people; not an out-there kinda comment at all.
