Penn State does not get a lot of money from the state as it is, which explains why even their instate tuition is so high. And the Governor is pushing a 30% cut at both PSU and Pitt.

I think it's posturing by the school to put pressure on the Guv.

I don't think it's posturing at all. I think they're completely serious, and they may not be the only public university that will consider this in the near term. Given the increasing meddling in public education by state legislators, and the diminishing financial support universities are receiving from governments, I know a lot of people at public universities view their school's ties to state governments as mixed blessings. William and Mary sounded out alumni on this issue a few years ago, and funding and political constraints placed on the school by Virginia's government cause the question to keep popping up. I know privatization had a lot of support from faculty there. It would be hard for William and Mary to pull off, though, due to the school's $600 million endowment and relatively small number of contributing alumni. Penn State has a nearly $2 billion endowment and one of the largest and most fiercely loyal alumni associations in America. I suspect Penn State merely wants concessions from the state at this time, but if none are forthcoming, they have the wherewithal and the motivation to do this. It makes sense to give the idea a fair hearing.

Cornell, USC and Army the only schools with a winning record vs. M (minimum of 4 games).

There are several with a 1-0 record (BYU, Miss St, Arizona State to name a few).

Our last win against Michigan was in 1951, one of the biggest game's in our stadium's history. That game goes to show you that the Ivy was still pretty competitive later than people think (although technically, the "Ivy League" didn't exist yet)

Too bad we don't have some of those old Ohio players around nowadays, to ask them if they'd rather have a few wins in those games against Michigan, instead of the losses.
