  • Past decade plus they didn't schedule anything like that. Lots of years they had 3-4 gimmies.

Off the top of my head I'd say you're right. I know the last time they played Pitt was in 2000. And until the recent games they hadn't played Syracuse since maybe 91 or 92. Really gave up playing eastern teams for a decade or more

      • Wisconsin running back Zach Brown visited Pittsburgh for the last three days and is considering transferring there, sources said.

        • I still get the feeling that PSU will one day bolt for another conference.

I'd suggest the Big East, because they could dominate it and get a BCS game every year.

          • They are pretty happy with the B10 but need a conference rival that doesn't kick their ass like M and OSU have and not a fake one like MSU. I'd like to give them a rival in the B10 like Maryland, Pitt or Rutgers...

            • A large chunk of their fanbase may not be happy in the Big10 but everything I've heard about their administration suggests they are staying put for a long time.

              • And I want them to stay as well. Penn State is a big time university, and has a great football tradition. I think the Big Ten is a better conference with them on board.

I'd just hate to see them move on, just so they can dominate a weaker conference.

                  • PSU has no better options, Big East and ACC don't get the $ the B10 does.

                    • Here's an interesting article on the money making aspect of college sports. UM comes in 4th place, making $17.5 million in profit, even after expenditures of $89M. If all tickets for all games at Michigan Stadium were free (assume 110,000 x 7 @ $70 ea), the AD would still be the 12th most profitable out of 228 Div I schools.

Texas generates the most revenue @ $143M, but only pulls down $13M in profit (7th place), due to $130M departmental expenses. I wonder how much of that is air conditioning bills?

The biggest profit generator for 2009-10? Oregon, at $41M. That explains Brandon's
                      affinity for clown costumes.

                        • 8 of 11 B10 schools 'self-sufficient' (athletic department makes a profit without university assistance), NW is private so they don't have to release their financials to the public..

Minnesota will be paying for their new stadium for some time, explains their absence. Other two are, Wisconsin & Illinois... Wisky is a bit of a surprise, they fill their stadium but have a huge AD...

Not sure I understand the accounting with Oregon, did they include the donation (academic center for athletes) as revenue? I understand other donations are included as revenue.

some of those are misleading. UNL's AD department donated 2M to the school. Others do or don't include facilities depending upon how they account for them broadly across the school.
