Correct. They got those bye weeks, and they got bye weeks against Michigan for two years after that, although I don't know if that second set was negotiated.

        heh, heh.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

        • Yep, Paterno sure looked good in those years when Penn State got an extra week to prepare for the best of the conference. How has he done since then?

          • PSU has done well but not great, which is about what I forsee from them in the future too. In the future, obviously depends heavily on who replaces Paterno.

            • Paterno will be an anchor on the program for a long time.

                  • Ah well, Penn State got a couple bye weeks. Big deal. Michigan was prepared to stand in the way of the deal over THAT? Pretty short-sighted.

                      • I can understand why an ohio state fan would believe its short sighted for an opponent to want the playing field to be level.

                        • Indy lands major championship deal with Big Ten conference

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The city of Indianapolis continues to impress the Big Ten Conference. WISH-TV has learned that the Big Ten Conference will make Indianapolis its home for the Big Ten Conference Football Championship game and Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments for the next several years.

Below are details of the agreement:

Big Ten Football Championship Game in Indianapolis: 2012 - 2015

Lucas Oil Stadium is already hosting the inaugural Big Ten Football Championship Game this December 3rd

Big Ten Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament rotates between Indianapolis and Chicago: 2013 – 2016. Indianapolis will hold the tournament in 2014 and 2016.

Indianapolis is already hosting the 2012 conference Basketball Tournaments.

The decision Sunday by the Big Ten will have a major economic impact on the city. The Football Championship Game is expected to bring $20 million to the city while the Men’s and Women’s Tournaments have brought in nearly $10 million to the city’s economy.

Conseco Fieldhouse has played host to the men’s tournament seven times, including the last four, while Chicago’s United Center was the site for the first four years beginning in 1998. The two cities rotated from 2001 through 2008 before Indianapolis won a five-year contract that runs through 2012.

The women’s tourney has spent 16 of its 17 years of existence in the circle city. It began at Hinkle Fieldhouse in 1995, moved to the RCA Dome in 1997 before ending up at Conseco in the year 2000. The 2001 tournament was played in Grand Rapids, Mich. before coming back to Conseco where it’s been held since 2002.
