  • Liney, if Stalions was on CMU’s sideline for the MSU game, that would qualify as “in-person scouting of a future opponent in the same season”. Although, to be perfectly honest, I think he was probably there to help CMU. I mean IF that was him.

    • Yeah, I think it's increasingly likely that Stallions was paid by CMU to help them steal Sparty's signs. Since CMU is actually working with the NCAA on this, that's likely to come out sooner rather than later.

I still continue to believe this is going to end very badly for M. But, I don't see it getting there any time in the next few months. The process is going to play out because, IMO, what the NCAA is seeking M can't possibly accept. Or come remotely close to it. But when/if they self-impose a post-season ban for 2024 you'll have a pretty good idea that it's Thor's fucking hammer that's coming down.

Or it'll just be a small fine.

        • Look, Wiz -- as our good friend Mike has noted, Stallions and his lawyer have refuted all NCAA claims. Time to move on.

                • TBF, I'm posting a link to a Pat Ford (SI) piece that also analyses the Sign Stealer piece. It gives Stalions and M no breaks.

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

Just remember: The SEC is at fault for whatever M did.

Heh, that said, I will never pull for the NCAA against any school, not even LSU, Tennessee, or Auburn (although, while I have nothing against UGA per se, I probably would be on the NCAA’s side if it involved Kirby, though).

                        • I think this all gets resolved at the Chicago Vegan Steak House I mentioned earlier. The wine and cheese boys from both institutions will come up with a punishment that satisfies both sides. Michigan has lots of experience in punishing itself, usually to the satisfaction of the NCAA.

I agree with talent, it will likely include a 1- year post season ban, self-imposed by Michigan, of course.

And then I want to know who tipped off the NCAA. Who is the mysterious one that the NCAA is protecting? And how did they get their information?

If we're having a truly fair and transparent process here, what are they afraid of?

I think they'll avoid that. Michigan still draws a huge television audience, and the fans follow the team well. The networks would not like that, even though they love bashing the institution.

I think M will put up a good show during the appeals process, and do a lot of blustering to try and convince us that they are "fighting for Michigan" or some such rot as that. But, in the end, at the steak house, in that "we didn't have this" meeting, it will get all fixed up.

M probably self-imposes a post season ban in '25, and a good size fine, and a period of probation.

And somewhere, Mel Tucker will jack off to the news.
