  • Cancel, and you won’t be defeated... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell your conference that they may set bad rules, but they'll never take... • Penn State had a really bad 2021 recruiting cycle. The state had 6 top 100 kids, 11 4* kids and 13 top 500 kids. Penn State signed Lonnie White (195 Overall) and then a couple kids outside the top 500.

White is currently their 2nd highest rated recruit.

              F Penn State.

                      • High viral prevalence in a lot of regions, the mid-west in particular right now, makes it really hard to avoid getting COVID. You're a hater of health and a lover of reopening everything and the death it brings if you mention herd immunity ........ but that's what the US is inching its way towards.

Give it those that are labeled as evil and, gasp, traveling to be with family while spreading disease when gathering another 30 days or so, at least a week after the new year, and the US will be closer still....... and don't forget, 97% of those under 65 that get exposed to SARS-CoV-2 and then develop COVID symptoms will experience only mild to moderate symptoms and fully recover without medical intervention.

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                        • A lot of the upper Midwest is actually over the latest hump. Hospitalizations in the Dakotas, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin are all clearly trending down now.

There's quietly been a rebound in a lot of the South. Arizona, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, and even Georgia all have more people hospitalized now than at the worst point in summer. Florida is one of the few places in the SE that hasn't surged above the summer peak.

                          • Even Queen Gretch had to admit this week that the explosion of Covid that was expected following Thanksgiving gatherings has not materialized. Thank goodness for that. Here in Shiawassee County, we have 14 people hospitalized with Covid symptoms, out of a population of 68,000 people. There are just over 1300 active cases, down from 1450 last week. Our hospital employees are supposed to start receiving the vaccine soon. I guess our hospital is not important enough to get vaccine sooner.

Correct. The rise, then plateauing and falling of new case numbers in the absence of lock-downs isn't something that I've seen explained very well. Lock-down light or responsibly targeted mitigtion measures have become derigeur these days. If you search back, the governor of Iowa, R Kim Reynolds, imposed a mask mandate in mid-November to combat a surge. She restricted gatherings both indoors and out and closed indoor dining ..... but in very limited ways. It wasn't a whole-sale lockdown. Details here: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/iowa-co...-mask-mandate/

I can get behind this because it demonstrably works:

                              Iowa2.JPG

I can't abide by CA's Governor Newsome, though, who is the lock-down king in the US. Also what's weird is that FL has no mask mandate and virtually no restrictions to businesses and while it's numbers have risen, not at all significantly.

There are charges the state PH department in FL is manipulating data at Desantis' direction. The visuals behind FL law enforcement last week raiding the home of a data manager within the PH department that was terminated, is a bad look. She claims she's a whistle blower and is being harassed for running a web site where she publishes her own COVID data. She has a checkered past and a bad work record so, she's not lilly white in this matter at all.

I don't have a problem with FL's data. The way its tabulated and reported is straight forward and transparent - leading to claims that it's not accurate and is misleading. Desantis can't win for loosing by being transparent

                              • Ohio hospital capacity remains at around 80%. Which is good. We've withstood the big surge and can probably stay around 80% (both beds and ICU beds).

Meanhile, here's Florida stats by age group: http://ww11.doh.state.fl.us/comm/_pa...rts_latest.pdf

For my age group (45-54), in Florida, it's a 4% chance of hospitalization and 0.4% chance of fatality.
