  • Well, again, Ohio State enjoyed no competitive advantage and not only did they get hammered, but the NFL even joined in. But, whatever.

I 100% agree with you that suspensions are all that is warranted from the B10. I'm sure we disagree on the length and to whom. I would join with you in objecting to team penalties. Those are most definitely NCAA penalites. The B10's reach, IMO, is limited to supsensions.

    • BTW Talent if your expectation is that Harbaugh, Moore, and Minter get show causes, I'm not super opposed to that, but I do think that an investigation needs to be completed first. One unanswered question is whether Stalions's codebreaking activities were ever incorporated into playcalling, which is a key aspect of whether the assistants should and could have reasonably known about it. And I don't think that the burden of proof has to be high, but there needs to be some evidence there.

      LMAO. You're funny.

      • A show-cause has to come from the NCAA. So, yes -- that has to follow NCAA rules. I don't think the B10 has that authority.

I don't have a particular expectation. But, HARBAUGH***** was suspended for 3 games for clearly violating Covid recruiting no contact rules. I would expect something greater for HARBAUGH**** is appropriate.

I wouldn't vacate anything or ban them (NCAA stuff) absent a big ol' additional pile of facts.

        • OK then we're not too far apart, but I'm pretty sure that 13 ADs are calling for a lot more.

          • I would also say that I would probably only suspend HARBAUGH**** and leave MInter and Moore alone. If they suspend all 3 they are, IMO, effectively punishing the 2023 team. I'd suspend Minter/Moore effective 2024. HARBAUGH*** immediately.

            • I can't see Harbaugh getting just suspended. I think that he gets a lifetime ban if the B1G acts.

I don't know about Minter and Moore. In theory, we could survive any one game without one of those three. But all three at the same time would be really tough.

And everything I'm saying is contingent on the assumption that Stalions's efforts translated into opponents' playcalls being given to our coaches during games.

I think M could have resolved the issue by agreeeing to a long suspension for HARBAUGH**** -- something that the B10 ADs/Coaches feel is adquate for the perceived wrong.

M had no interest in doing that, I guess. Or, alternatively -- and I'm just spit-balling this -- HARBAUGH**** had zero interest in this AND HARBAUGH**** needed to sign off b/c he can sue in Fed Ct as easily as M to challenge the suspension. Without his sign-off there was no way to agree. So, M decision-makers, IMO, 100% know what's coming and, IMO, were probably willing to deal, but couldn't -- but that's super speculative on my part.

No way it's a lifetime ban.

I agree re coordinators. That's the real dagger, IMO. If they have the coordinators I think they can do fine going forward. If you lose all 3, then you're fucked. You really are. You're probably still good enough to finish 13-0, but the CFP is dead.

                  • We could probably survive the loss of Harbaugh and Moore, since we have an OC in waiting with Hart and a solid interim HC choice with Jay Harbaugh. But I don't know who would coordinate the defense. Not a pretty scenario to imagine.

                    • From the rumors I've read -- and I haven't posted any of them b/c they're rumors -- but from those, Jay is most likely to know exactly what CS was doing.

                      • But anyway, yes -- I'm not in favor of mass suspensions effective immediately. HARBAUGH**** now. Others stayed until 2024. That's what I'd do.

But I don't know how pissed off the B10 ADs are -- I don't know how much pressure the B10 is feeling.

                        • The B1G AD's are extremely pissed off...I don't think that is even disputable. I'm sure that factors some. I also don't think the B1G is intimidated by M's threats either.

                            • I don't have a dog in the fight as far as punishment or no punishment now or later but it would be nice to not have to hear about this anymore. The less I have to hear from the people on Mgoblog, the better. Ditto for John U Bacon, a guy who is fun to listen to, but will absolutely always trade in his credibility to defend the university at every opportunity.
