Whitley, just to be clear, I'm all for player compensation and freedom of movement between teams but the model has to be similar to that of the NFL.
What irks me is that there is no regulation of NIL or portal transfers and if people think there is, it is ineffective or easily subverted. The SEC is way ahead in the infrastructure that allows optimizing rosters through NIL and the portal.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

I'm all for player movement via the portal, but I think it needs to be somewhat regulated.
If I were the King of CFB, this is what I'd do:
First, if a kid wants to avoid college and go straight to the NFL, they cannot sign a LOI with any school. They would then be eligible for the NFL Draft at age 19.
If a kid signs a LOI, he is obligated to that school for 2 years. He may not transfer during that time. If he leaves school during that time, he may become NFL Draft eligible at age 20.
After 2 years, the Portal may be utilized as follows:
1. First time, no penalty. Receiving school may offer a full scholarship, and full NIL participation.
2. Second portal movement (likely after the Junior year) the player could only receive a full scholarship and NIL participation from the receiving school if their playing time fell below a certain number of minutes and/or games. Otherwise the receiving school could only offer a 1/2 scholarship, with limited NIL participation. NFL Draft eligibility if the player is at least 20 years old.
3. Third portal movement: No scholarship/NIL unless for medical reasons. However, immediate NFL draft eligibility would be granted.
And the portal should only be open at the end of the bowl season, and for only 2 weeks. If a kid wants to leave, he'll know it by then."in order to lead America you must love America"

I agree that the NIL/Portal need to be applied more consistently...problem is different conferences and schools have different policies regarding them...because I believe each state handles contracts in different ways. My fear is that any restrictive step is going to be met with a ton of resistance. Plus who is going to regulate this? The NCAA? Heh. Gonna have to be a new governing body of some sort....which I do think is probable...Shut the fuck up Donny!

18-teams feels like too many to me...
M plays Sparty and Ohio State every season in football, then they play the other 15 teams just barely less than once every other season. There are rumors of the B1G going to a 10-team B1G schedule which would help the problem a bit and allow you to play everyone every other season.
