  • The ACC GoR is the thing holding FSU/Clemson back, not AAU issues. As Mike noted, if you're thinking of the B10 as the regional AAU membership conference then it's just not right. Not anymore. If it was, then Stanford and Cal would be great, great additions. But, they're total trash TV draws. So, fuck them. And rightly so. I'd take Clemson all day over either of those two shitstain sports schools.

This is essentially about building the AFC or NFC. Take you pick. The SEC is the other. And while the SEC is more regionally confined, the B10 is and will continue to be more national. They're absolutely going to add teams from the ACC if/when the GoR is cracked.

The ONLY think that doesn't make sense to me is that it's 4. I would think they'd still hold the door open, slightly, for ND.

In any event, if you have Ohio State, M, Penn State, USC, Clemson, Oregon, FSU, UCLA, Wisconsin, etc -- you have the capacity to schedule at least 1 absolute marquee "night game" every week and probably 2.

Whatever. The P12 is dead. The B12 is basically Group of 5. The ACC is teetering. And profit-sharing of some sort is likely coming in the modestly near future and it will only serve to further separate the B10 and SEC. The winners are clear. The losers are everyone else except those schools that can beg and borrow their way into one of the two winners conferences.

I should say, maybe I'm being too harsh on the B12. The potential for a Kansas State-Oregon State showdown or epic Arizona-Cincinnati game is really high.

      • if those rumors end up being true and that move comes to fruition, then the B1G effectively ceases to exist and it becomes a nationwide league with -- 20 teams? Good luck coming up with divisions and scheduling that. I guess you might be able to go to five team "pods" but -- JFC. Apparently, they can't destroy the sport fast enough.

          • At some point people are going to turn off the TV and walk away. If the B1G goes that route then I might just do that. I might just skip watching a couple of games this year that are effectively on PPV.

            • I think they need to be careful about how fast they move on all this....agreed.

              • That being said...the people making these moves don't care what the average fan thinks...they are looking at revenues...and they see the March Madness and NFL playoffs generating zillions of dollars...that are currently being left on the table at the NCAA Football level. The schools are looking at it from how much of the conference pie are they getting...the conferences are jockeying for positioning against the Big Two...but it's all about the jack when it comes down to it.

                • As I alluded to, they're turning CFB into the NFL. Not completely, but it'll waaaay more like the NFL than, say, 1970s CFB. Whether that will suceed or fail -- I don't know. But it's the throttle is wide open on this one and it's gonna happen pretty fast.

                  • There is a "mysterious" Board of Regents meeting being held in Arizona today. The same Board oversees both Arizona and AZ State.

                    • Well, the P12 just announced that their TV rights are streaming and that each school would get almost $20M!!!!!!

I hear they asked Bowling Green and Toledo to replace UCLA and USC, but they money wasn't enough.

I read an article this morning about how FSU is proposing to pay the $ 300 million exit fee from the ACC. They can finance it and pay it off over 4 years with the EXTRA money they make from belonging to the B10. 5 years with the SEC. I presume Clemson has the same option. So moving to the B10 would involve subsisting on the same income they now have for four years and then getting the $ 100 million yearly that the article projects to be the amount the B10 teams get each. FWIW, Texas and Oklahoma paid $ 100 million to exit the B-12.

Eventually, a 20-team B10 will need to separate into two divisions. I propose a Championship Division of the 10 best teams and another division of the bottom 10. Then promotions and demotions yearly like they do in soccer.

Speaking of soccer, did anyone else watch the scintillating match with Portugal last night? I'd rather watch televised chess.

The value proposition is, I think, largely correct.

                              • Further perspective on the Big Ten and SEC becoming the AFC/NFC look at the CBS pre-season rankings. IF, and there's a lot that needs to happen first, but if the Big Ten indeed ends up with Washington, Oregon, FSU, and Clemson as rumored, look at how many teams from the Big Ten and SEC land in the top 19.
