Heh, that's fun trying to remember those divisions and rivals

    Nebraska-PSU
    Michigan-OSU
    Minnesota-Wisconsin
    Northwestern-Illinois
    MSU-Purdue
    Iowa-Indiana

Guessing on those last two cuz I really don't remember.

    • Wouldn't Indiana-Purdue have been a protected rivalry? I don't remember MSU-Iowa but my memory of that period is hazy at best.

      • Purdue and Indiana were in the same division with us I thought? Gonna have to look it up now...

        • Can't find a list of the protected rivalries but yeah, the "Leaders" were OSU, PSU, Wisconsin, Indiana, Purdue, and Illinois

          • So I'm guessing the legends were the rest?

            Great sleuth work.

            • Yeah, 9 wins (3 losses) in the B1G or SEC might get you invited to the CFP... Nine-win teams in the B1G/SEC are likely to be favored over 10-win teams in the ACC, Pac 12, Big XII thanks to the tougher strength of schedule.

              • The no-divisions thing is going to make for an interesting season. You're going to have 16 teams vying for 2 CCG spots. What happens if there is a 3 way tie?

Anyway, the east/west thing just never panned out. West never really got competitive.

                • They’ll have tiebreakers.

You’ll see things like, head-to-head, best overall record, highest CFP rank, etc.

                      • Head to head will be first tie-breaker, obviously. There will likely be scenarios where the teams didn’t play one another so the CFP poll will factor in at some point.

We're going back to "the most representative team"

                          • Yeah. The one where MSU votes with OSU because "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" ... and all that.

                              • It doesn’t really matter. With 12 teams in the CFP, everyone with a pulse gets in.
