CBS, with Gary Danielson and Uncle Verne, was a quality broadcast. Alabama fans hated Danielson because he couldn’t hide his Alabama fatigue, but he had good insight usually.
It was funny, though, especially on penalties:
[Alabama lineman grabs the outside of the frame]
”That’s obviously holding. Egregious! Got to call that! Don’t know why they picked up the flag there!?”
[Opponent’s lineman grabs outside the frame]
“That’s ticky-tack. They should pick up the flag. I wouldn’t call that. You have to let the linemen play.”
Wash, rinse repeat with late hits, targeting, and PIs.

My biggest problem with him was that he is such an SEC shill.
" Even though (insert SEC team here) has 4 losses, they should be considered for the playoff. After all, they play in the tough SEC West"I feel like I am watching the destruction of our democracy while my neighbors and friends cheer it on

Yeah, we will never disagree on that. If there was a call made, he went counter Alabama nearly 100% of the time. It was funny and I really think he did it on purpose. There is a video compilation somewhere, but apparently not on YouTube.
Gary is a BigTen guy, but he covered SEC games. He’s gonna shill for them some. Love your hyperbole but his opinion for SEC teams in the playoffs was never for 4-loss teams. It was SEC 1-loss vs P5 1-loss or SEC 1-loss vs G5 undefeated and giving the SEC the benefit of the doubt in both cases - but, honestly, rightfully so. Over the last 20 years or so the SEC has easily been the best football conference."The problem with quotes on the Internet is that it is sometimes hard to verify their authenticity." -Abraham Lincoln

I still remember back in aught seven when "Dr." Strangelove had the temerity to knock Vanderbilt as "not that good" and Alabam"Alum" cuffed him so quickly with the Preston Brooks dueling cane that Strangelove must have thought he was guilty of some abominable crime like bringing out Lord Alum's cheesecake a few seconds later than he wished.
Christ on a fucking cross was it ugly. It's nice to see that he's mellowed a bit in his old age and is giving CGVT the kid glove treatment.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

Fun trivia on Preston Brooks. Not even six months later he was dead. By all accounts it was an extremely unpleasant death by slow suffocation, trying to claw open his own throat so he could breathe. The cousin whose "honor" he was defending followed him to the grave just a few months later, also dying of disease.

When your great-grandpappy was driven out of Wyoming for bigamy and selling alcohol to the Indians and then settled in the lawless Nebraskan desert to found Wizzie's Brothel & Distillery, he established from the start a certain level of service. He would be ashamed at the rudeness on display today
