  • I can't believe there's a Luke Fickell Sweepstakes.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
    Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

    • I dunno but I'd bet my nutsack that Fickell is not at Cincy after this year. He can't be holding out for the OSU job -- it ain't coming open anytime soon. I can't think of anyone else in the country who has a better resume that isn't currently coaching at a "destination" school. He's winning big and he's not benefitting from one magical elite athlete ala Hoke and Nate Davis. He doesn't have a gimmicky "system". He's not an offensive guy or a defensive guy. But one thing that the MFer can do is recruit Ohio. Penn State and Michigan are perfect fits for him. Penn State obviously wins if there is any head-to-head competition there. I have no idea if Fickell would be interested in Michigan but he would be great for us and, honestly, I think that Michigan would be great for him. I keep coming back to Gary Moeller having played for Woody and Bo coming from the Woody coaching tree. For that matter, he would have prospered at Michigan State and I thought that he should have taken that job.

There will be other openings, but he's a perfect Midwestern fit. I hope to God that he doesn't coach in the B1G unless it's at UM. I wouldn't expect him to prosper at USC or Tejas.

      • Well, he was schooled in the ways of UFM for a long time and he's likely not quite as big a dick because that'd be hard to do. UC still plays a total shit schedule and it's especially true this season.

        • Every year, we see prosperous coaches at historically anonymous or shitty programs prosper, and everyone always speculates that they much be happy in their niche there and they will never leave. And almost every time, the people who say that are wrong.

"Jim Harbaugh is happy in California, he's not leaving Stanford" BZZZZZT!

"Chris Petersen isn't leaving Boise State. He's content there" BZZZZZT!

"Bobby Petrino isn't leaving Louisville where he's a hero" BZZZZZT!

I think that you get the idea.

            • Luke Fickell has already said he could never coach at Michigan after having coached at OSU. Just like Urban Meyer said.

I have no idea why Michigan fans continue to have wet dreams over either of them. Neither will ever, ever, ever coach at Michigan.

              Ever.

This is America, gosh darn it. Land of second chances.

I can’t believe there was a James Franklin sweepstake a couple years ago either.

                  • Fickell would absolutely go to Michigan if the chance arose. I think Texas and USC are better jobs (due to the recruiting and easier competition), but both those fanbases think they’re getting Urban.

I think Fickell would go to M. I don't think you turn that job down. That said, UC is a gold mine. Shitty ass conference that he can do well in for a long time.

Texas and USC are better jobs but poorer fits for Fickell. I don't know where his heart lies in that regard. IMHO the best "win-win" combo is Fickell to PSU or UM.

I firmly believe that Meyer will coach again.

I also feel like Brent Venables has got to be ready for the Big Time and I could see him going to Tejas.

Another darkhorse candidate for an open job might be Art Briles. Information has come out since his Baylor firing that shows that he got totally screwed and was a victim of "dear colleague" bullshit. It might be too soon but things could change and he could coach again, methinks. Jason Whitlock had a great write-up on it and I highly recommend it.

                            • Right now, I don't give a shit about M football and I'll get to that. I do give a shit about Michigan sports, including football, going forward and after the current football coaching staff is out of Schembechler Hall, and the sullying of Bo's legacy is over. Even with a new regime starting in January 2021, I'll check in with skepticism. I won't check in at all of Harbaugh is still around.

Back to the current and fucked up BT COVID season of 2021. I have the IU/MSU game on in the background and I just walked by to see IU score again to go up 24-0 with about 7 minutes left in the first half. MSU is the team that came to Ann Arbor and made Rocky Lombardi look like Ben Roethlisberger. Since then, Lombardi has thrown 6 pics in two losing efforts and IU is going to delver another.

If this doesn't tell you how fucking awful a football coach Jim Harbaugh and his collaborators in this mess are, nothing will. The performance of this team with the talent it has on the roster all the way to the two deep is an embarrassment of epic proportions. I might tune in to tonight's game v. Wisconsin, I've got nothing else planned but, I'm hoping M get's blown out or stomped badly enough, so that the case for the power brokers to show this failing coaching staff the door builds.

What I worry about is somehow, the players rally and despite the crapfest that Don Brown puts on the field and the snail's pace offense, locked in stone no matter what the opposing DC shows that Harbaugh is assuredly dictating to Gaftis, lucks out and wins a couple of games left on the schedule. That could preserve what will undoubtedly be a continuation of shit M football for another season at least.

I'm a Juan Howard and M basketball fan for now. He's apparently got something going if, as I read here from those better infomred on this game than I, he can coach the players and games against the best opponents. I don't know enough about basket ball to say if he can or cannot do that. But you can bet I'll be learning. I do know a bit about Hockey but just haven't paid a lot of attention to it and have fallen behind in keeping up with the modern game. So, I'll be following that. But if Harbaugh is still the HC of M football in January, you can believe I won't be following him or the team.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.
