  • Wisky cancelled as a preemptive move...nothing to gain by beating UNL...now they might salvage their season...but not gonna happen
    Shut the fuck up Donny!

    • Call me cynical but I think if Mertz does not test positive--they play this game.
I don't think you're cynical at all on this. I think you're completely correct. If they had six 3rd stringers sick, along with 3 trainers and 3 equipment personnel, they'd be heading to Lincoln this week. I have no trouble at all believing that.

I agree. However, according to one of the articles I read, the Big Ten schools unanimously agreed that if a team can't or won't play it will count as a "no contest". There will be no forfeits. So essentially, Wisconsin is folding their hand and hoping they'll be in a better position in a week or two. Incidentally "no contest" is how MSU players usually plead in court. That has nothing to do with Covid but should be pointed out.

          • The problem with the "no contest" is that it fucks UNL. You need to have 6 games under your belt to qualify for the CCG. Through no fault of its own, UNL has lost 1 of the 2 games it can afford to lose.

Maryland, Rutgers and, say, Illinois could "no contest" Ohio State out of the CCG.

Well in the event OSU misses a couple games, it would be prudent, for health reasons, for a 7-0 Michigan team to "no contest" the last game of the season. The path now is clear.

              • Man, that would be really spectacular. 5-0 Ohio State (w/ 2 no contests) vs 7-0 M and HARBAUGH!!!! no contests it sending M to the CCG.

That might be the best spun scenario I've read in awhile, Mike. Well done!

Are you sure that it applies for the "won't"?

If the game in Columbus is a snow bowl this year, maybe M has a shot. Don’t think there is any chance M stops Justin Fields outside of bad weather messing with the game.

... assuming the B10 and their wonky COVID protocols make it that far. Maybe not.

                    • A snow bowl won't stop OSU. The only way that UM beats OSU this year is if OSU gets a perfectly targeted Covid outbreak that is large enough to take out all of their best players, but small enough to let them still play.

The wise thing for Kevin Warren to do would be to find a way to relax the Covid measures in a way that saves face. If he doesn't, his job will very much be in jeopardy.
I don’t think they care that other conferences are successful. They cancelled, had to backtrack, and are attempting to set this up as a “I told you so!” Facts about others won’t sway them.

Reminds me of UA a couple of decades ago. Student senate passed a resolution to allow beer to be sold at the food court in the Ferguson Center on campus. Admin initially said “no” but received such backlash that they relented. The then president, Andrew Sorensen, said “Fine, but if there is ever any issue from it, it will be removed.” It was just a matter of time before some frat kid who had a few beers wrecked his car outside the Ferg (even though it was isolated and he had been drinking beforehand) but the student body got a lecture, and an “I told you so.” as beer was removed from Ferg. This seems to be made of the same cloth.

BUT that's when the B10 steps in and modifies the COVID protocols to let Ohio State play IMO.

Mentioned it before, but hypothetically if Justin Fields has COVID under 21 days before the M game... GUARANTEED the B10/ Ohio State will find some way to let him play.
(Obviously hope nobody gets COVID/ not rooting for it ... hypothetical situation)
