  • To be fair, I don't see why Covid testing results should be different for athletes than they are with coaches.

Nick Saban was diagnosed, re-tested and resumed coaching in a matter of 5 days.

I don't want Fields to get Covid any more than I want Milton to get it. But, if either of them were to test positive, but then over a 5-7 day period they test negative 3 consecutive times, then why can't they play? Why the arbitrary 21 day rule?

They take an antigen test first and if it comes back positive they are removed from team activities but then need to take a PCR test to confirm whether they have the virus or not. Mertz and the backup QB are currently waiting on the results of the PCR test. If that is positive, THEN they have to do the 21 day quarantine/no team activities.

            • That still doesn't answer the question re 21 days. It's a preposterous rule. One that pro-America folks were forced to swallow as a concession to the B10 so that the B10 could undo their preposterously awful decision.

              Fuck this conference.

                • Agree re: sitting out 21 days. I was just pointing out that the 21 days isn’t automatic based on the antigen test alone. It must be confirmed first. Anyone should be allowed back after 3 negative tests whether that takes a week or a month.

                  • Correct. I just wanted to make sure the idiocy of the rule wasn't lost in your explanation. Or rather, I wanted to rail against this asswad fucking conference again. The latter is almost certainly true.

                    • I'm going to wait until I see which team the dumb rule hurts the most to decide whether I hate it or not.

                      • Wisconsin will likely be down to their 4th string QB. The Wisconsin 3rd string QB tested positive for COVID.
@ Nebraska, vs Purdue, @ Michigan.
.., barring those COVID tests coming back as false.

At least Ohio State can beat down a new B10 West team in the B10 Championship game. Wisconsin being there every year is getting boring. ... as is Ohio State obviously winning every game.

                          • You can win a national title with your 3rd string QB, but 4th string would be pretty tough.

                              • It's this element of chaos that gives me hope for this goofball season. I've figured for a while now that the only way we'll ever beat OSU again is something along these lines - a perfect storm scenario where the coach gets fired mid-season, they're on their 3rd string QB, we get them at home, etc. And when we finally DO break through with this historic win, we'll already have 2 or 3 losses, be eliminated from the conference race, and watch watch OSU win in Indy the following week. I've got it all worked out.

For now, I guess I'll have to settle for Wisconsin. But there's also a good chance that these could be false positives.
