Yeah but, I think Froot has his hand on the pulse of MSU's admin and Froot believes it's a dream to be thinking MSU can bring a quality coach like Fickell to EL. I'll go with his take. Fickell aint coming...... and that's a very good thing for M considering the state of affairs with Harbaguh overall and in particular between M and osu right now.

It's interesting that M has not extended his contract - which expires next year, iirc. That is usually done for recruit confidence and failing to do so is often seen as a vote of no confidence.
That is happening right now

Thanks, Jeff. Maybe one day I'll become a well-reasoned Michigan fan. There's always hope.
Fickell to MSU would be a problem for Michigan. He does have inroads in Ohio that Michigan currently does not have, nor have they tried to build them. So, he could create chaos for Michigan on the field with Ohio talent, and he could be a burr in the saddle for Day in recruiting. I doubt that he'd ever be real competitive for Ohio talent, but he'd be in a good position to snipe away a key player here and there, to help build a good team in EL.
It would really suck for Cincinnati for him to leave at this late date with players already signed during the early signing period, and anyone that was signed today. Cincy would have to scramble to fill their HC role, and would likely find that a bit more difficult than MSU will.

The only thing is they had some weird confidence about the search. Fickell kind of denied interest, I don't know shit. From what little I know, this was a shock to everyone involved in the athletic administration. The only thing that can save them is a gigantic bag of money to lure them to East Lansing. In retrospect they was a strong interest in getting Fleck there two seasons ago and it sounds like his wife wanted him to retire two seasons ago. That looks like a missed opportunity. The thing you need to know about these MSU hires is they will probably interview at least one great coach and one bad coach and the odds are even that they hire either one. Urban Meyer was a lead candidate and then ended up with John L Smith. Fran Ganter, Rick Neuheisel and Nick Saban were lead candidates and they ended up with Saban. The timing of this makes it more likely they get stuck but who knows.

That's correct, but do not forget the maxim made famous by the legendary Ted DiBiase, "every man has his price."

Yeah that class is terrible, but no good coach goes in thinking he can't recruit. If you can recruit at Cincinnati, you can recruit at MSU. At Cincinnati you have no chance at the BCS, you do in the Big Ten East although Michigan has yet to prove that as a reality. MSU needs to use the power of the purse and heed Ted's advise. Its much more likely they get stuck with Mike Tressel.
