  • We're getting Dabo post-Saban and I am not sure I am thrilled about it.

Which one is the guy who is currently at Kentucky? I'd take him but not the guy who bombed out at Arizona.

        • Stoops is at UK and Morrow is his best recruiter. He was at Arizona with his brother, but he was only an assistant.

          • OK

You wouldn't want Stoops? He can recruit (or at least his staff can) and his teams don't look poorly coached to me (I admittedly haven't watched most of their games though).

            • Harbaugh tried to get Morrow, for the Ohio recruiting connex mostly IIRC.

              • Rest assured OSU will find someone just as good. They will get the best available coach and that guy will become an all timer. They pay huge sums of money and they have a great setup, its not hard to get great coaches for them. Its one of the special programs, everything is set up for the coach to win huge. And they are cutthroat, they won't be tethered to hire someone with ties to the program. They might get someone with ties to the program, but that will be secondary to being the best available coach. In other words they won't fall into the Alabama trap of hiring someone with ties to Bear.

                • You get fired from Ohio state if you go 9-3 which is better than our typical season.

                  • They would be very lucky if the next guy was as good a Meyer. They can pay for an alltimer but it's still somewhat of a guess until the guy proves himself. I can't think of anyone that they could get who is going to have a track record that is as elite and long as what Meyer had coming in. He was a once in a lifetime type luck -- a two time national championship winner who just didn't feel like coaching at his old program anymore. The chances that the next guy will be that elite are small. But the next guy will definitely be good.

                    • I'm always dubious of the once in a lifetime proclamations. I'm putting my marker out there, they will get someone just as good for OSU as far as the results go.

                      • As of today, UFM's teams are 184-32 during his coaching tenure. He's won 3 NCs at two different schools and produced a 13-0 season at a 3rd -- and if they had a CFP, the Utes might have made it in 2004 (Texas might have gone ahead of them).

He's in his 16th season and his worst season is 8-5. He's won at least TWELVE games in 9 of his first 15 seasons.

His OSU teams are 80-9 and have finished in the top 6 5 of his 6 seasons. His lowest ranked team was 12-0 before losing to Sparty and Clemson. His 2nd lowest ranked team WENT TO THE CFP.

There is just no motherfucking way that OSU is going to just go out replace UFM and not fall off a little. I have a lot of confidence that they'll get somebody pretty damn good, but UFM's coaching record is highly aspirational for all but The Nick and maybe Dabo.

That said, I was on record as being skeptical that UFM could match Tressel's success.

                        • We'll see, I'm talking OSU record not his Florida or Utah records. If you are talking hiring a coach with that kind of resume going in, I will agree, that will be rare but as far as a guy to repeat his OSU success, there is no doubt in my mind they will find someone rather easily. He could be better, he shouldn't have gotten railed against Iowa last year or Purdue this year.

There is always another coach, you have it good, don't fight it.

                          • I don't know why you would have thought that Meyer would come up short vs. Tressel. He is hands down a better coach. The only question about Meyer coming in was whether 2010 was an anomaly. Apparently, it was.

                            • Tressel was 106-22 in 10 years, won a national title, won 7 B10 titles including 6 straight. He finished in the top 5 7 of his final 9 seasons. In his final 9 years he was 99-17.

In some ways, UFM has not been as good as Tressel -- B10 titles -- but, then again, UFM is dealing with a CCG. Tressel won the B10 in 2005 and 2008 when he tied with PSU, but he lost to PSU both years so he wouldn't have been in the CCG.

Anyway, the point is that Tressel was really good.

So, I'd expect the next coach to be at least on that level or maybe somehwere in between Tressel and UFM.

                              • Brohm lost to Mike Riley at home last year. That should preclude him from any major job.
