  • Are you sure it's not just that you're a sucker for new terminologies? I recall what happened when you read about ``swim lanes" for the first time.

    • The short term solution for the Spartans this year at least is to spread it out and pass a lot. They have their best receiving trio in 20 years and one of their best QBs. Valenti's main point is correct about forcing the run, its been a problem for awhile.

      • if you have to play centers at LT in his absence you are in trouble

Mason Cole would like a hug.

I have to admit I don't see enough of them outside the M game to really comment. Of course they look spectacular in that game. Of course D'antonio maxes out on what he has, and makes himself look smart in comparison to whomever Michigan has in the HC spot. On that day. I should watch them more in other games.

That's SOP for the Spartans, in 2015 the line was a mash unit and they somehow got the playoff. A few games they had gimpy 6'0 C Jack Allen playing left tackle. At least Cole is 6'4.

              • Whereas Michigan somehow needs a perfectly healthy set of four/five-star recruits just to keep the QB on the field.

Heh ...... I used that term about twice. My use of the terms 21 and 11 personnel demonstrates an understanding of football lingo way more robust than what that hackneyed term is applied to.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                    Seriously?

I am very literal. Do not fuck with that reality.

You'd have to be an idiot to think that is true. You know perfectly well, or should know that M lost basically 3y of recruiting and development of offensive linemen before Drevno and Frey were shown the door...... and it's going to take 3 more years to unfuck what happened. Deal with it.

                    • Connor Cook got hurt that year and he showed balls of grapefruit in some of those wins taking shots to deliver NFL throws.

You haven't had the Qbs, thats been a bigger problem than a patchwork line.

                      • To be clear, that rant of Valenti could have been uncorked in 2007, 2010, 2016 or Monday. It is his standard rant about the program when they have a loss and it has a kernel or truth to it but it shows a guy who has never been on a coaching staff. The arms race is fun to talk about, I'm not sure getting these high priced assistants does what he thinks it does. MSU is not a deep pockets institution, demanding it there it is a fools errand.

I thought his spiel about Staten is off the mark. I think he is good offensive line coach, he might not be a good recruiter but they have been very good getting serviceable lines.

True ...... it appears M has one now in Patterson and the scheming that Harbugh does around what is perceived by many as a weak M OL to put Patterson in a position to make plays should be recognized for what it is ..... good coaching.

                          • Patterson rolled out 40% of the pass plays vs Western - while this may be a strength of his (throwing on the run) also could be look at as a troubling sign that Harbaugh knows the O-line cant protect him.

                            • Patterson might be, he has to show it by winning big games.
