Throw in a 7th game and I still manage to drift to .500 with a 3-3-1 showing. I still can?t believe M gave up 14 to Rutgers, but whatever. 35-36-1 and going nowhere fast.
Penn State (-9?) at Michigan State. The Nittany Lions conclude their 3-game ?gauntlet? in Lansing against Even Angrier Dantonio. First, line info ? it opened at 13 and is down to 9?. At that number PSU is a heavy betting favorite and the line isn?t going up a lick. It seems the number is about as low as Vegas feels comfortable going. And why not? Last year Franklin humiliated Dantonio. And Dantonio just lost to nFw, so the bitter rage swells. I?m not sure how PSU bounces back from last week. And I definitely think Even Angrier Dantonio isn?t the remedy. I?ll take the points and back Sparty to make this a miserable affair and maybe even win.
Wisconsin (-13?) at Indiana. The Badgers continue to underwhelm while Indiana saw their bowl chances take a huge hit with last week?s defensive meltdown. I think IU is the right play, but (a) the line is suspiciously under 2 TDs and (b) Good Badger/Bad Badger. Riding (b), I?ll take Wisconsin to find a way to get to a 14-17 point win.
Illinois (+14) at Purdue. No. God. No. No. God. God. No. I?ll take the points. Nothing else need be said about this indictment of our universe.
Ohio State (-18 ) at Iowa. Iowa is a tough place to play. Indeed, it was where the legend of HARBAUGH!!!! suffered its first ding. Moreover, this year?s Iowa team has been a grinder, club fight sort of team. They?ve played 3, yes THREE, 17-10 games (going 1-2). Ohio State overcame Ohio State last week on the strength of an outlier JTB performance. I?m encouraged by the direction of OSU?s offense, but I?m still not sold on their consistency. And, well, if they score they have to kickoff. I think OSU can gut out the win, but there?s no way Ferentz is losing by more than 18 on his turf. I?ll take the points in a 17-10 game.
Maryland (-2?) at Rutgers. Fuck Delaney and the Delaney Bowl. Rutgers sucks. Period. If Maryland doesn?t shoot themselves in the foot, they win this game. I?ll back DJD and the Turtle to win and cover.
Northwestern (+1) at Nebraska. Boy, you rally to beat Purdue in hostile West Lafayette and still get pegged as a home dog. And, sadly, I think it should be way more. UNL is poopy. They don?t do much of anything particularly well. nFw is slightly less so. nFw has also given UNL everything they can handle in Lincoln. They?re a hail mary away from a perfect 3 for 3 against the former Big 8 power. I?ll back the Genius of Fitzgerald to win again in Lincoln. Team Husker will, if they?re lucky, attend an all-day 12u girls? soccer tournament in a cold Kansas City rain. But don?t you worry ? your octogenarian AD is on the case! A ?New Day? is coming!
Minnesota (+15?) at Michigan. You throw out the records when the Jug is at stake. I wish I could throw out my records backing HARBAUGH!!!! this season. As of late they?ve been some real not covering motherfuckers. Last week Quinn Nordin?s missed FG did me in ? well, and giving up 14 to shitball Rutgers. However, the savior has arrived. Again. PETERS!!!! The Goofers are better than Rutgers. Marginally better. The Goofers are running a luddite offense. Ty Johnson is a really nice WR, but their QBs couldn?t start for M. M?s running game is, apparently, on the rise. I?ll count on Nordin to make his kicks this week and Don Brown to not give up more than 10 to an entirely one-dimensional offense. I?ll go with M to win something like 27-10.
