  • That's not a good thing.

    • I don't find them to be all that scary. Their potential as a program is overrated. The whole program was built around a cult of personality. That guy turned out to be a fraud. And eve that guy struggled in the Big Ten.

      • I agree, just saying Franklin leaving isn't good for any of us. We know what he is, they could always make a really good hire.

        • Penn State is underachieving now. They could be really great. Lots of talent there and lots in the coastal area that they used to pillage. They've still got the history, the name recognition, the tradition, and the resources. No reason they shouldn't be Top 15 on a regular basis and occasionally Top 5.

          • Until Penn State does it with someone other than that fraud Joe Paterno, I will remain skeptical. They were still honoring that fool last week.

            • The next guy after Franklin will do it. They are very strong on all of the fundamental pieces that make for a stable college football program (talent within driving distance, tradition, fan base size, fan passion, tradition, etc). Franklin still has a shot I guess but they look pretty disappointing so far this year and I can't see him surviving less than 8 wins.

              • We'll see, I don't believe the fundamentals are all that good for that school.

                • I expect Penn State and spartie to be battling for that 3rd spot in the East in the years to come. I don't see any school outside of the top 4 to make a dent.

                  • Penn State used to usually play a cupcake schedule before they joined B1G; even after they joined the B1G they'd have awful OOC schedules...

PSU does have lots of in-state talent and in neighboring New Jersey, Maryland, and the Mid-Atlantic. Rutgers & Maryland joining B1G IMO hurts them more than anyone. Franklin is probably a couple months away from being fired though this is only year 3 of a massive rebuilding job; those sanctions were massive and are still being felt.

                    Comment

                    • PSU is rebuilying the program. I think they're 1-2 years away from complete recovery from the debacle. They need to keep adding solid classes, though. Franklin can't help but leave them in a better place.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
                      Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

                      • They've got a big dilemna with Franklin. He has excuses that are as legitimate as there have ever been, but he has still looked like a total clown on top of that. I think that it's possible to separate the coaching performance from the preexisting conditions to some extent. If Pedo State isn't showing any improvement by the end of this year, then he probably needs to go.

                        • B1G so far this week:

Michigan, Nebraska, Rutgers, Wisconsin, Minnesota & Ohio State win blow-outs vs cupcakes; Sparty had a bye...

Northwestern loses to Illinois State, Jub I'm sure regrets his silly prediction of them winning the B1G West; 9-7. NW doesn't have a QB...

Indiana struggles in win over Ball State; 30-20... Ball State was -3 on turnovers...

Purdue does what Purdue does, loses to Cincinnati 38-20. Their goal to get out of the B1G West basement might be in reach.

Penn State loses to Pitt 39-42... Penn State probably could've/should've (4 turnovers) won this won but covered the spread... Narduzzi runs a very Dantonio style offense where he has no Kirk Cousins...

                          -

Just starting... Iowa vs Iowa State; Iowa up 7-0 & Illinois tied at 7 vs North Carolina...

I did not pick Northwestern to win the West. That was Iowa. I said Northwestern might be the most underrated in the B1G.

                            • Purdue still is a team that can go 3-9 this season.
The defense is terrible. At one point they gave up 12 consecutive 3rd down conversions to Cinci.
The offense? They crossed mid field like every possession vs Cinci, then were held up by a turnover, missed FG, or just punted at Cinci's 40 yard line.

Purdue should beat Nevada and has a good enough offense to surprise at least one B10 team. 3-9 record, fire Darrell Hazell, and hire another bad coach.
I've heard the buyout for Hazell is $6 million, but will go to around $4 million after December 31st (that'd be awkward to wait that long to fire him).

Purdue fans are dreaming that Art Briles would come to West Lafayette (yea right... And why with the off the field shit).
A name that rightfully will be thrown around is Ken Niumatalolo because the only way Purdue has a chance is to do something good is be different... like Joe Tiller with the spread in the late 90s.
