  • Fuck the SEC.

Georgia had Auburn beat on the Plains. Georgia beat LSU and South Carolina. Nebraska matched up very well against them I thought...particularly in the trenches and at WR. The SEC is not heads and shoulders better. That is a myth perpetuated by the media.
    Shut the fuck up Donny!

    • After several decades of trying, The Wizard has finally stumbled upon a true statement. A magical 2014 already!
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
      Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

they've just had better QB play.. BIG QB play is down.

also... I think the BIG needs less SEC games. They have different rules. Let someone else lose to them

        • Bill O'Brien grew frustrated with Penn State politics

Posted by Darin Gantt on January 1, 2014, 8:19 AM EST

The Texans knew they'd be in the job market around a month ago, when they fired Gary Kubiak.

But Kubiak's official departure came two days after his replacement confided to a reporter that he wasn't long for Penn State.

In a comprehensive look at Bill O'Brien's departure from the college ranks for the Texans job ? which O'Brien accepted last night ? David Jones of PennLive.com detailed a Dec. 4 conversation with a frustrated O'Brien.

"That's why, in probably about a month, they're gonna be ?-ing looking for a new coach," O'Brien told him that night.

There seemed to be particular frustration with the political side of being a college coach, the glad-handing and recruiting that takes up more time than the football. Trying to manage that at a place wracked by the Jerry Sandusky scandal, and the legions of fans beholden to former coach Joe Paterno, was a line O'Brien tired of walking.

"You can print this: You can print that I don't really give a ?- what the 'Paterno people' think about what I do with this program," he said. "I've done everything I can to show respect to Coach Paterno. Everything in my power. So I could really care less about what the Paterno faction of people, or whatever you call them, think about what I do with the program. I'm tired of it.

"For any 'Paterno person' to have any objection to what I'm doing, it makes me wanna put my fist through this windshield right now. . . .

"I'm trying to field the most competitive football team I can with near-death penalty ?-ing sanctions. Every time I say something like that and somebody prints it, it's skewed as an excuse. And I'm not an excuse-maker. I'm trying to do the best I can for the kids in that program. That's all I care about is the kids in that program. As long as I'm the head football coach here."

That led to the revelation he wasn't going to be there much longer, likely knowing there was interest from the Texans before the final decision on Kubiak's future was announced.

Being able to get back to the tunnel-vision world of the NFL is likely good for him, and his passion should be an immediate boost for a Texans team that fell flat this year, despite high expectations.

          • That's the type of crap that probably helped Harbaugh decide he'd be happier in the NFL. I know that if given the choice, I'd much rather coach in the NFL where your only job is football. The SEC does a good job of shielding their coaches from the nonsense. Their only focus is to recruit fast players and win football games. I'm happy for O'Brien that he was able to escape the cesspool that is the Penn State football program.

                    • I live about an hour from Gainesville and am inundated by rabid, and often obnoxious, Gator fans. I can tell you this from personal observation.

The "Big Ten is crap" talk came into full bloom after Ohio State got their Buckeye butts handed to them by Florida and LSU in the BCS Championship games. The thinking was, "If that is the best the Big Ten has to offer, then the rest of the conference must be horrible." Or words to that effect.

In overall Bowl games, the Big Ten has played the SEC very competitively, and Michigan in particular has done quite well over the years. But until the Big Ten best team beats the best of the SEC on a national stage, the belittling attitude will continue.

Hell, more than that...we were something like 25-4 against the SEC until the 2000s.

The SEC was Bammy and nobody else from the 1960s until the previous decade. Growing up in the 1980s they were every bit the afterthought that the BIG is today. It was OU, Miami, Notre Dame, NU, Penn State. Michigan had highly-ranked teams, UCLA was really good for a stretch too.

Bammy won the title in '92, then FL and TN- following beatdowns by Nebraska- won in the mid to late 90s, then there was about five years where the SEC vanished again.

Then they blew up...and I think Strangelove hit on a bit reason why. The most effective governor on the SEC might well have been the SEC. You don't hear much talk of them ratting each other out anymore.

                          • One of the sweetest games I ever watched was the Nebraska pounding of Florida in the '95 Fiesta.

My two favorite teams are Michigan and whoever is playing Florida.

                            • Mike Slive brought peace to the SEC, Hoss. I'm hoping that it falls apart eventually and the schools get back to ratting each other out. I would've thought that Cam Newton would've been too much for even most SEC schools to stomach but they held firm.

On another note, a kid (Jamal Adams) in this HS all-star game just announced that he will be attending "The University of LSU"

                              • Sparty went 7-6 in '12, played a terrible schedule this season. They were the best of the B10 (barely) but they are still far from elite...

Pac 12 has a cream puff bowl lineup, even when the rare occurrences when they put a couple teams in the BCS their bowl lineup is very favorable as they play a bunch of home games.

SEC is a level above everyone else...
