  • Drok had the 2 best posts I've read about a) yesterday's game and b) the OSU situation.

Don 't shoo Talent away. We need his sh*% to fire up the base. Anyway, those who have met him say he's a decent guy even though his posts have their intended intent, ie, to irritate. And we have to admit they occasionally contain a grain of truth. I don't want to read just what all of us "homers" have to say.

The time won't be too long in coming before we have some legitimate smack to send to him and his friends.

    • Tressel was exposed, his decade of "excellence" was a charade, he was forced to resign in disgrace....as for the rest, it's simply window dressing, and frankly who cares, pretty hard to top his fall from "grace".

      • Yes, his fall from grace is something .... but its not enough.

osu as an institution should be penalized for letting him get to the place where he thought he could get away with lying and covering up key players getting inappropriate benefits.

Institutions with real, palpable core ethics don't have this kind of conduct occur among its leadership. That tressel managed to slither his way to the heights of CFB coaching at osu indicates to me what every M fan has always known, osu is a cesspool deserving of no respect whatsoever.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

        • Well, since I'm so beloved...

So the facts are not that your coach lied to the NCAA and didn't own up to it until outside interests proved this was the case?
No, that's not the fact -- thank you for so graciously proving my point in the very first sentence of your spiel. Ohio State owned up to when Ohio State discovered the emails and Ohio State self-reported the emails to NCAA and Ohio State put Tressel in front of the NCAA ... all prior to anything any f'n outside interests "proved."

Tressel failed to forward the Cicero tip proper authorities. If you think that justifies months upon months of negative coverage, so be it. It's an odd stance.

Institutions with real, palpable core ethics don't have this kind of conduct occur among its leadership.
Indeed. Such institutions aren't hit with LOIC of FtM charges from the NCAA. I know of at least one B10 school in the past year that nailed with FtM. Do you, Buchanan?

Keeep a straight face while typing that. You can't seriously compare exceeding oactive by as much as 20 minutes with a decade of Tressel transgressions, most of an egregious nature? Seriously?

            • That should read transgression -- singlular. You know, if we're concerned with facts an all.

And hey, who am I to judge? I think the NCAA rules, in many instances are crazy. What I do know is that one B10 team has been hit with FAILURE TO MONITOR in the past year. Another thing I know is that it ain't Ohio State.

Ah well, you've blocked me. Another M fan uninterested in the facts and reality.

If I were a fixture at BuckNut.com, it would not be unreasonable to suffer the slings and arrows from our adversaries.

No doubt. Just pointing out what a bitch some folks are. I enjoy your over-the-top stuff, OP. And I enjoy Buchanan's over-the-top digs which, coupled with his largely reasonable personality has him invariably backing off to something sensible -- the battle of the two Buchanans, if you will. It's all in good fun and, frankly, a reflection of the pain Ohio State has inflicted on your program. It balms my soul!

FTM is not at issue ..... thoughtful M fans know that Compliance and Rodriguez messed up by not knowing players practiced for 20 minutes longer than they should have. This was largely a technical issue with CARA forms; it did not involve issues of integrity ..... except to the extent that one DirFBOps, Scott Draper, was intent on making Rodriguez look bad and succeeded. Dave Brandon subsequently fired Draper for that and later Rich Rodriguez for just generally making Michigan football the laughing stock of the FBS.

Now, on to the issue at hand which would be tressel's lying. As I said, institutions with core ethics that exceed those of, say, Enron or maybe AIG, don't have leadership that lies. That is because up and coming leadership gets the shit slapped out of them when caught doing that sort of thing and never makes it to the top because they get fired.

Regardless that the NCAA has not connected the dots .... because as you correctly point out the facts can't substantiate what circumstantially is fairly clear ..... tressle's conduct (his lying and cover-up of inappropriate benefits making there way into the hands of players) point to an institutional culture where that sort of thing is (a) looked the other way at (tressel in the eyes of his players .... "he has our backs") or (b) lacks the mechanisms to identify unethical conduct and then put a a stop to it.

                              Take your pick ....

Yes, yes, yes, osu officials reported violations to the NCAA when they allegedly first found out about them and then took action to get rid of tressel ........ in my opinion only after the juicy tidbits of his conduct got splashed all over the papers and TV all the while, having known it, I am convinced, for a long time.

You aren't going to change my mind about the inductive reasoning that I have laid out previously to support that position by setting you up to prove a negative so, don't even bother. It happened and for reasons and a background context you and I are never going to agree on.

As an aside, here's a link to a short blurb on inductive reasoning and why ....When you get right down to it, the statement ?you cannot prove a negative? is really just a different way of saying ?You can?t prove me wrong because I don?t even know what I?m talking about.?

The issue of ethical conduct for me, then, is not FTM but rather failure to promote an environment of compliance. I could make that case in spades if I thought the NCAA would buy it based on a constellation of osu player behavior under jim tressel and questionable conduct that, while apparently not substantiated in violation of specific rules, according to the NCCA investigation, suggests that somebody wasn't paying attention and that somebody, if they were paying attention, didn't do enough to stop the questionable conduct. Thus it continued .... and continues still with three more players accused of taking inappropriate benefits just last week.

How does one stop questionable behavior? By suggesting that, for example, you are on a big stage now; even the perception that you are getting treated differently is cause for concern and potentially damaging to the program. Don't let anyone think that .... and if I think you are conducting yourselves in a manner that even suggests or actually is in violation of NCAA rules, you are going to pay for it.

                              Not that hard.

                              osu = massive fail.
