  • He could be a bit happier, heh
    Heh. True.

    Buchanan:

We disagree on UFM. I agree on the fact that OSU haters will make the most out of a loss. I mean, but for the Fickell debacle, they're few and far between. Opponents have to make the most out of it. That's the price that comes with being hugely successful.

Meanwhile, when you're Purdue or Illinois or Michigan, individual losses aren't so much mocked as is lengthy systemic failure.

    • Just out of curiosity, how many of you celebrating Sparty's victory live in Michigan? I do and I don't look forward to having their Big Ten title thrown in my face whenever they feel the urge. Reasons for them to lose last night are plentiful but that is near the top of the list. I am simply flabbergasted by all the Sparty love here and everywhere today.

Sparty winning is a far greater positive for their program than ohio state losing is a negative for theirs. It's not even close. Just because we inhabit the same state isn't a reason to like them. If fact, I thought it was the exact reason we hated them.

        • I was hoping for a Sparty win in hopes that the silver lining would be Michigan, as a program and a fan base, being embarrassed by it and inching a little closer to realities as people in my camp see them.

Instead people are embarrassing themselves rushing to ignore the inconvenient part of this particular reality. Some good can still come of this, but the smart conclusion is that coaching matters. Getting it right is far a more important element of winning than having national cachet or the biggest stadium or the biggest alumni base or the longest history. ThisisMichiganyadayada -- it hasn't been in a while and it won't be for long if this keeps up...

          • That would make perfect sense if Dave Brandon had the capacity to feel shame. I'm not willing to make that assumption.

            • Well he doesn't feel that so in his presence you rephrase it as a ``lack of marketables'' or somesuch.

I don't see most of the comments post the osu loss as Sparty love but rather happy about osu getting railed .... and they got railed. No question.

There is nothing better, nothing, than seeing osu take a hit.

Do I like it that it was at the hands of MSU? No, it sucks and, in context it is a shit stain on the state of M football.

Does Brandon see it this way? Maybe behind closed doors he's muttering about it (only because somebody with a clue has his ear). He'll never say anything publicly if he somehow understands this.

But to understand requires him to see M football in terms of 9 years of mediocrity a decade of getting handled by osu and 6 years of Sparty owning Michigan. I don't think he is even close to that and that sorry state of affairs reflects the low priority that the controlling boards place on the national perception of Michigan football.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

Yeah. Big picture it's a good win for MSU. It doesn't matter, program-wise, for OSU. It matters a great deal to OSU fans, but the machine will keep rolling.

That would make perfect sense if Dave Brandon had the capacity to feel shame. I'm not willing to make that assumption.
That's a great line. That makes me happy I actually read the bulk of this nonsense today.

                      • Trying to decide whether you want MSU to win, or OlieO to win, is like trying to decide which you'd rather have lusting after your body ... Roseanne Barr or Rosie O'Donnell. Either way, you won't like the result.

Not sure which one = MSU beating OlieO, but this morning at 1:30 am, it felt better than watching OlieO thump its chests about their anomalous winning streak, and another Meyer shot at a MNC.

                        But .. that's just me.

                            • Geographically, both teams are north of Columbus. It was obviously a great day for Spartan fans. It was a great day for Michigan fans to witness the meltdown of their biggest rival. It's really a simple statement that doesn't require it being twisted along with the panties of a few little girls who probably haven't been alive as long as I've been a Michigan fan. I revel in the Buckeyes' pain. Either way, someone was going to win. I preferred it to be MSU because osu would have been playing for the national championship. Whatever. The impact on my life of what is typed in here is infinitesimal.
