  • Wisconsin just lost in the strangest way possible??

At the 13 yard line of ASU (down 32 - 30) they run a play to the center of the field (no time outs) for a winning FG with 18 seconds. Then run out of time waiting for the officials to spot the ball! WTF

    • This is going to be talked about a lot threw the week. I know its been a F' up day, but Liney/Wiz I would like your take on this.

      • They didn't know what they had. Did they have a ball downed by the QB, or did he put it on the ground before he downed it, creating a fumble? As they tried to discuss it to get it right, the clock was running. Wisconsin couldn't run a play, because the officials were over the ball.

        It was a giant cluster****.

If I were a Wisconsin fan, I'd be seething right now.

Bottom line, the Badgers got screwed by the officials indecision, and there was no remedy for it.

        • Thanks Liney, you called it - Here is CBS Sportsline :

The Badgers then drove to Arizona State's 13-yard line and Joel Stave took knee to set up a potential winning field goal. He put the ball down as he tried to kneel and left it there, causing confusion as to whether the play was dead. The clock kept running, though, and the Badgers couldn't get another play after scrambling to the line of scrimmage.

          • Last Note; Seems the Pac 10/12 seems to always be on the good/lucky side when a screw job happens when playing the Big Ten.

I don't think you can blame anybody except Wisconsin for that one. The ASU players jumped on what they thought(or plausibly had reason to think) was a live ball, which makes calling delay of game on ASU there awfully tough to justify. The officials had to sort that out, plus decide whether Stave had in fact taken a knee or given himself up. Stave solves this entire situation by simply taking a knee as quickly as possible and handing the ball to an official.

              • That's right, as far as I can tell, JRB. The way he downed the ball left the situation open to interpretation. The officials were probably expecting the standard knee, but he slid, sat the ball down, and ran toward the backfield. The ASU player, rightly I might add, fell on the ball, in case it was ruled a fumble. While they tried to sort it out, the clock was running.

They could have stopped the clock to discuss it, but that would have allowed Wisconsin to run their FG team on the field, to kick the chip-shot winning FG. If it runs, ASU wins the game. With either decision, one team gets screwed.

I have no love at all for the Badgers, Big Ten team or not. As far as I'm concerned, its about time they stepped up outside the conference, put on their big boy pants, and played some real competition. So, I'm having a hard time feeling sorry for them this morning ... They would have loved a Akron win in Ann Arbor earlier in the day ...

                • It looks like he did take a knee after running into his own lineman

                  • Runs into his lineman, goes on a knee - puts the ball on the grass

                    • Spot the damn ball or take an official timeout to discuss it!

                      • Big10 with a shitty day. OSU and Iowa were the only teams to win games of any significance.

Teams at the bottom looked a lot better today, ironically. Teams at the top looked a lot shittier.

                        • B10 is terrible which is probably good news for M who play a relatively tough conference schedule. They miss Wisky, Purdue & Illinois.

                          • Well, part of yesterday's sucktitude was that the Pac12 looks really, really good.

Do that, and you guarantee a Wisconsin win, because while you're discussing it, they run their FG team out and kick the chip shot for the victory.

ASU would be the one screaming bloody murder this morning.

It was a no-correct-call situation for the officials. No matter what they did, one team was going to get screwed. And the even worse part about that is, .. it wasn't the official's fault.

No so. One team may think they got screwed but there is the correct call and nothing else. You can't get screwed by a correct call. Not if you put yourself in the position that it came down to that.
