    • So Maryland had to be bought to join? They didn't want to join...? UNL wasn't contacted by Wisconsin?

And you're saying now the big has a policy of inequality?
Everything you ask is pretty much in my post you quoted. It's bargaining and leverage which Maryland had more of. UNL came from a very unstable conference that was in the process of losing Colorado, Missouri & Texas A&M as well. Rutgers was coming from the Big East... Maryland was coming from an ACC who is/was the first member to leave since I think probably SC.

      • DSL summed up my post pretty clearly which wasn't very clear after some cutting and pasting...

In summary, unlikely an ACC schools goes to the Big XII unless the B10, SEC aren't options and the ACC is being heavily raided. Who the B10, SEC really want (UNC) probably won't be available unless the football schools (FSU, Miami, Clemson, VT) that the B10, SEC have little to no interest in, leave.

Thus the ACC survives even if the B10 takes Virginia & GT.

so the BIG equality is a joke then... thanks for letting us know everyone has different rules. I thought UNL left that conference.

            • UNL is welcome to rejoin the Big Texas conference and set up your own 3rd tier network. Or you can stay and be champions!!!!!!

                    • SOURCEZ says, Big Ten is headed for geographic divisions. Only sticking point is that either Purdue or Indiana has to go to the West.

I hope this means that a cross-divisional rivalry will be preserved so that we can keep playing the Brown Jug game. Getting to play Minny, MSU, and OSU in every regular season = acceptable, at least, for me. A great benefit is that everyone else in the conference gets to preserve their natural rivalries. Iowa/Wisky is a pretty decent one that will return to being annual, and Nebraska will get a better shot at forming rivalries with the teams out West. Unfortunately, there aren't any other East-West rivalries in the Big Ten that anyone will care about preserving, so there won't be a strong driving force for this feature. Unlike the idiotic Leaders/Legends setup, where it was absolutely necessary.

But I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The Big Ten's future division alignment is taking shape. Barring a late shift in the discussions between athletic directors and league officials, the only question to sort out is: Will Indiana or Purdue move West?

                      • I thought MSU might be interested in heading west. Whatever.

If Rutgers/Maryland erases the Leaders/Legends debacle, that's hidden value!!!!

                        • PSU will not be relevant for a period of time.. that said, I'm surprised MSU is not in the west and has a protected rivalry with Michigan each year.

                          • MSU wouldn't make much sense in the West, except for competitive balance. And they wouldn't provide a lot of that. It just so happens that the conference is going to have to accept a lack of competitive balance and the East team winning the CCG 7 years out of 10.

                            • MSU shouldn't make decisions. Decisions should be made for them.
