You could be right about Rutgers and Maryland not bringing their pro rata value (roughly $50M).

Let's do a little exercise. Let's say that I am wrong, and that Rutgers+Maryland exceed that $50 Million. I'd like to hear your SWAG as to what the number would be. Hypothetically. Then, do this...

1. Take your number and subtract $50 Million from it
2. Divide your result in step 1 by 14
3a. Take your result in step 2, and figure out how much it is as a percentage of OSU or UM's athletic department budget.
3b. Ask yourself whether OSU or UM boosters wouldn't pony up the number from step 2 in a hearbeat, if it meant that they could keep the conference intact.

Boosters will put up millions for shit. They will pony up huge totals to buy out a crappy coach without blinking on eye. They will spend at least $200,000 for a player like Cam Newton (probably more).

Be honest with yourself. If expansion wildly exceeds my expectations and increases your athletic budget by 1%, are you genuinely going to be ecstatic about it, or are you engaging in dissonance reduction behavior?

Well, let's say it's $106M total for a total of $4M per school. Would OSU and M pony it up? Sure. Would anyone else? I dunno. How many schools would OSU and M have to pay for? Lots. Is it worth $16M (if OSU had to pay for 3 more schools) ANNUALLY to keep things as they are? I doubt it. Honestly, I doubt that it's worth $4M ANNUALLY.

But, look, this is just another way of raising the value issue. If it's a $50M or less add, it's obviously a disaster. If it's $100M add or more, it's a financial success. TBH, though, whether it's $50M or $200M, I don't really want it as it stands. We'll see how it plays out, but as of today, I'm nonplussed.
