      • Bottom line is, if both of those schools are willing to entertain the idea of moving to the B1G, they'll be given the chance.

            • One side of me thinks Delaney is only trying to avoid the B1G from being left holding the bag whilst the SEC and PAC-12 go on a treasure hunt...and I get that...I do. I can even warm to the idea of maryland...but Rutgers I think is a joke. Rutgers? WTF? C'mon man. You passed on Mizzou for fucking Rutgers?

              • Have to remember for the Big Ten Academics matter a lot. So does AAU membership (Nebraska was stripped of it after they joined the Big Ten). That is a big stumbling block for Notre Dame, and I do not see the Big Ten members bending on that.

Texas would be a great fit every way, but the major question is if they want to share money. So far, that has not been the case.

Barring one of those two joining the Big Ten, then I think the next two logical universities to join would be Virginia and North Carolina.

Yeah, Rutgers has a lot more upside than Missouri. Much better academic school as well.

                    • Missou > Rutgers + Maryland. Hell, I just read that "industry people" in TV have it charted out that Nebraska does better in NYC than Rutgers does. The Rutgers Theory is a joke.

That aside, lets assume RU and UM are potentially good fits for us...is there any reason we need to add them now, filling up two spots at the table?

These schools are walkons in the grand recruiting game of conference expansion; they are there for us any time we choose. You take these schools as a fallback plan after exhausting all better options. Now our "expansion class" is half filled with career PAT blockers.

I see that you do not give a damn about academics, but it IS very important to the presidents of the Big Ten universities. In fact, the Nebraska president said had they been stripped of their AAU status BEFORE joining the Big Ten then Nebraska would not be in the Big Ten today. And I would think that he would know.

On a side note, I would watch debate championships if shown (or DVR it if I was working or it was like 3-4 am in the morning). It is not uncommon for members on debate teams to put in 30-40 hours a week in addition to going to school full time as well. Some of them even have a part time job as well.

Maybe. Mizzou, though, isn't a plum addition. From what I understand, the SEC only took Mizzou because they really wanted aTm, and other alternatives were vetoed. Mizzou, IMO, is only marginally better than Maryland. As an overall fit, I think they're comparable.

Hell, I just read that "industry people" in TV have it charted out that Nebraska does better in NYC than Rutgers does.
I don't think that's true. I think that 4 of the 5 highest rated games in the NYC metro area involved Rutgers. I think that using Silver's crude estimate of fandom, Rutgers controls about 20% of the NYC market (which is extremely LOW for a home team, but still, it's NYC).

Rutgers is a roll of the dice. Really is, IMO. Maryland, IMO, is a safe choice. Mizzou would have been a safe choice with zero upside.

                              Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.
