  • According to the 2011 budget numbers I could found, Rutgers operated a $62M AD, Maryland $56M. Maryland's 2012 budget was $62M (No 2012 data was available for Rutgers) due, I assume, to the inflated TV contract the ACC signed.

That would place both beneath 10 of the Big Ten schools (NW not reporting) only surpassing Indiana ($61.5M) by less than $1M, and falling more than $6M short of 9th-place Purdue ($68.7M).

    Its a windfall!

    • I'm still hearing Texas, Entropy, too, though the rational part of me absolutely refuses to believe it. There is no reason to believe it.

I've also heard -- are you ready -- Mizzou.

      • C'mon, Hoss. You lived through gads of Ames, Lawrence and Pre-Snyder Manhattan trips. Heh. Embrace the glory of the newfound Nebraska-Rutgers hatefest!!!!!

Actually, you should be happy. The Huskerz aren't going to get stuck with that turd in its division. Well, I shouldn't say that. Who the fuck knows how Delaney will align shit.

              • Big XII signed GOR, meaning Big XII would get all of Texas media revenue (while in B10) till the grant of rights expire... SEC prides itself in that nobody would leave its conference, so Missouri isn't tied to the SEC...

ESPN and others reporting Rutgers happens tomorrow.

                • On the plus side, Boomer Esiason, Joe Smith, Gary Williams and a host of others just became Big Ten "Legends"! Wooot! Can't wait for the BTN program on the 2002 (I think) hoops national title team!

                    • So now the B1G stretches from the Atlantic Coast to Nebraska. Maybe we could get a Pacific Coast school to join and we could rename the conference to The Seas To Shining Sea Conference!

                        • Hannibal's point about due diligence on the risks and rewards is a real good one. I'd love to see Delaney's PPT slide show detailing low-, mid- and high-level outcomes.

                          • Notre Dame and Texas are pipe dreams at this point.

Maryland is a nice fit all the way around for the Big 10. It gets them into new markets and recruiting trails. Maryland will help in basketball as well, and that positions the Big Ten to be the College Sports League. Rutgers very well might come along as well and have to think that Rutgers, Penn State and visits from Nebraska, Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin etc. should be able to get some good penetration in NYC market.

As far as who will be #15 and #16 (assuming no Texas and Notre Dame)....Virginia and Kansas would be good fits.
