  • Hopefully it causes a riot and several JoePa apologists get trampled.

    • There are more appropriate places for Joe's statue. He has a few other sites on PSU's campus that are dedicated to his legacy. If they have to keep the stature, they can remove it from the stadium, and put it elsewhere.

I'm a bit torn on what they should do. On one hand, I feel that every reference to Joe Paterno should be removed from Penn State history. On the other hand, he did have a positive effect on many people's lives, and was a fine coach. I'm not sure that should be totally ignored.

But then again ... those kids ...

      • Statue came down this morning. Tomorrow the NCAA hammer may come down. CBS and ESPN both reporting that the NCAA will announce penalties tomorrow at 9 AM and they will be "unprecedented"

        • The NCAA should tread lightly, this is purely a criminal matter, State & perhaps even a Federal.

Without proper investigatory powers, (witness subpoenas & evidence seizures) , they are only fooling themselves. Quietly remain a toothless "rule enforcer" as the NCAA is powerless to fix this. Sad day for college football but in the end, it's only a game. Think about the countless children in this country that have been abused in a similar manner over the last 14 years, where is their justice?

I will add this....Penn State has been dragging its feet over the last few weeks regarding the monument, doesn't bode well that they final move on the matter, on a Sunday, the eve before the NCAA unleashes punative and corrective measures. Make matters worse, NCAA President (& Gee Buddy) Emmert added that he had "never seen anything as egregious."

          • From ESPN:

NCAA president Mark Emmert has decided to punish Penn State with severe penalties likely to include a significant loss of scholarships and loss of multiple bowls, a source close to the decision told ESPN's Joe Schad on Sunday morning.

But Penn State will not receive the so-called "death penalty" that would have suspended the program for at least one year, the source said.

The penalties, however, are considered to be so harsh that the death penalty may have been preferable, the source said.

            • It will be interesting to see the NCAA's rationale.

Btw... How again did auburn keep Cam eligible?

The NCAA wanted him to win the Heisman.

                • The NCAA just didn't want to open that can of worms. As for PSU, burn it down.

                    • Severe enough to be crippling but not the death penalty would probably mean a bowl ban of at least 3 years and a LOT of scholarships lost

                      • Sounds like USC-type scholly losses combined with multi-year bowl ban. Of course, it's had virtually no negative effect at USC.

My guess is it'll be worse than what USC got.

                          • Whatever it is, its going to hurt.

And Penn State fans will blame everyone but Sandusky.

                            • I'm totally ok with a bowl ban. That affects money the school makes and does not destroy their ability to compete. Not keen on scholarship bans though here

                              • I'm not buying "unprecedented". Everything has been done before up to and including the death penalty.
