FWIW, I put my settings to only show discussions in the past couple weeks; it only shows 18 discussions as opposed to 52 (year).

Just so everyone has sufficient notice:
After the bowl season, I am going to go in and start deleting some of the "pre" "during" and "post" game threads. If there are any of those threads that you'd like preserved, please let me know here, and I'll include them in the archives.
I'm going to do some restructuring of the threads at that time as well.
Seeing that this is pretty much a "football" forum, I'd like to keep the forum limited to about 10-12 threads during the off season, and we'll play it by ear during the season.
I'm still listening to suggestions. Note to the other mods: Please don't eliminate any threads yet. I want to get some more feedback from our contributors here before any action is taken.
Thanks to everyone for your contributions."in order to lead America you must love America"

FWIW, Liney, keep most of the threads---I see some further down the list that haven't been active for a long long time (and never had much activity from the start) that could be deleted, but, for the most part, I'd rather that you do the "archive thing" that the Lions Forum does with old threads. Like Doc Hodge posted upthread, I would loved to have been able to save some of the old threads and the wisdom (?) found within those threads from worldcrossing and even further back from the Freep days.

My wish is that the osu, Neb and ND threads be consolidated into the current threads either the Big Ten or Other CFB threads.
This is an M athletics board. My view is that our rivals don't need separate threads to give them a voice or platform equal to our voice. I'd welcome opposing views from M posters.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

I know appropriate rationale/preference for keeping these threads has been offered in previous posts. My only thought is that how many other non-M football threads do we then consider? If we do it for one, do we then do it for others? I don't know if the "grandfathering" concept would apply here or not. But, I generally would favor an M board that features M related threads.

As I said, I'm looking at consolidating down to (not my final decision, only an example) threads like this:
A. Michigan Football - General Discussion.
B. Michigan Football - Recruiting Discussion.
C. Michigan Basketball - All Topics
D. Michigan Hockey - All Topics
E. Michigan Baseball, Softball and Other Varsity Sports Discussion
F. Big Ten Football Discussion - Other Teams - Olieo, MSU, Neb, etc.
G. NCAA Football Discussion - Everyone Else.
H. Detroit Professional Sports Discussion: Tigers, Lions, Pistons and Red Wings.
I. General Discussion for All Other Topics. No Religion or Politics, please.
That's basically what I'm looking at right now. Its not set in stone, and I'm open to suggestions. With the idea, of course, that the point is to CONSOLIDATE threads, and not add more threads.
We still have time to discuss all this. Feel free to make suggestions and comments."in order to lead America you must love America"

I think those threads are great and I think that an overly controlled environment reduces activity. I do want to encourage lots of other fans to be here, even if they are the cromagnons from Ohio. I don't care if there's a bunch of threads still open because I never see them down there. No reason to scroll down unless you're looking for them. And if you're looking for them, why should you be unable to find them? Overall I think you guys have done as good a job as I've seen on a sports forum creating a functional culture, but babysitting it like this does bug me.

Agreed on overly controlled not being a good thing. My vote is to unsticky everything and just let the unused threads fade to the bottom. Natural selection. I don't see much point in archiving. Sorry but I don't see any Pulitzer winners here.

I agree with entropy. DSL and Talent would monopolize the "Big ten" thread or "other CFB" thread. I appreciate that the Husker nation thread is almost exclusiviely about Nebraska as the ND thread is about ND. I'm sorry we don't have some of the old MSU posters around to have an MSU thread. Just whatever you do be sure you have a Nebraska Women's Volleyball thread!

I like the separate thread for basketball recruiting.
The main Basketball thread already includes all game related talk so you could say it's already been consolidated.
2 threads doesn't seem like too much to me.
Football can wind up having as many as 5 threads and that doesn't really bother me.

As I said, I think I'd be satisfied if we could keep the entire forum at about 10-12 permanent threads. That way, even though all the threads would have a "sticky" on them, the most recently used thread would appear at the top. If they do not have a "sticky" they would age off, and that would defeat the purpose of permanent threads.
I'm still taking suggestions. I think the Basketball Recruiting thread is a good idea. That is bound to get more interesting as time goes on ..."in order to lead America you must love America"
