Precisely. OP even broke character to express something really important there. It's quite valuable. I agree that we should aim for somewhere between family-friendly and abusive. My perception of uneven enforcement here isn't thanks to you, Jon. But I think we'd all benefit from blind justice regardless of who metes it out. It's been easy to keep the peace here with Michigan fans having nothing to crow about. It'll be harder soon. Let's get our scat together and remember that we're all grown-ups no matter our allegiances. Those of who are particularly fragile may be better suited to posting GIFs on mgoblog threads.

Anyway, at baseline, I'm all for a free forum. But I also agree with those of you that have posted regarding finding a middle ground for conduct and the character of a post. A self policing of sorts.

IMO this has been the only Internet forum I've participated in that has the level of decent interactions that occur here. Sure, there are occasional exceptions but they are few and far between and mostly occur when there isn't any football or basketball to talk about.

Being a moderator is fun, isn't it Jon? I've found that some of the stuff I get accused of makes me both laugh and cry.

Jon summed things up very well a few posts back when he went over what the mods here would like to see. I don't think his request is a difficult one.

Liney, you can add a lot of drama to this. Accused of what exactly? And it really does make you cry(obviously not)? C'mon. It should all just make you laugh. Seriously who cares what someone accuses you of here? You need thicker skin, plain and simple.

I honestly have no idea why the OSU thread was zapped as I haven't entered it in weeks or maybe months. But I can't imagine it's nothing more than one of Stan's tourette rants or attacks. Whatever, do what you guys want, but this shit doesn't even mean anything.

Nobody has ever written anything here, that has literally made me cry.

My point was that some of the things I've been accused of in my role as a mod are so far out in left field, that they run the entire gamut of emotions. It takes me from one extreme to the other. I read some of these things, and one minute I'm laughing. Then a minute later I read something else, and its like, .. really?... seriously?

As Jon said, he and I have known each other since around 1995 or so. He was the first person from the old Freep forum that I actually met in person. I trust his judgement completely. As he stated, he's been a mod about as long as I have and most of the time he just rolls with the punches. I've gone to him many times for advice on what to do on the problems here, and he always gives great advice. The very few times that he's actually taken action he's been lambasted like he's some sort of tyrant. I find that absolutely hilarious, because Jon the real guy is about as far from being a tyrant as an individual can be.

Jon decided that he's had enough of the nonsense that was going on in the old ohio thread, and he took bold action to stop it, and send a message. I think its a job well done. For a Michigan forum to even allow the existence of an ohio thread shows how friendly and accommodating we are around here. I'd be interested to see if there are any ohio or MSU sites, that set aside a special thread for Michigan fans to chirp in with their opinions on things. Show me a link if one exists. Most of their sites have a very itchy trigger finger, and show us the door very quickly if we even dare to speak an opinion.

Maybe those of you who think that us Mods are so horrible need to go to some of those sites, and complain that they need to set up special threads for Michigan fans to speak their minds. Let us know how that goes.

What's done is done. Jon replaced the thread he zapped with a new one, and the ohio contingent can still go there and blab about the urban myth, their earth-destroying recruiting classes, and how much better than the rest of us they all are. We will sit back and laugh at them as we've always done. Especially when the scoreboard starts changing to our side.

As far as I'm concerned this issue is closed. Its time to move on.

If you want instantaneous respect, might I suggest the Remington 870 tactical 12 guage shotgun with the new Salvo12 sound suppressor? Don't get me wrong, these things are Heavily regulated, ATF Tax Stamp, FBI background check too but once you demonstrate you are an asset to the Republic....America just got a little safer.

No, I felt that Jon acted appropriately in removing the thread.

I'm disappointed that he felt it necessary to restore it.

I don't think its necessary to have an ohio thread for ohio fans in a Michigan forum.

If at the end of the day, we all agree on "it's just a sports forum, not that big a deal"....then I don't see why we wouldn't have a separate thread for anyone. Just stay out of the thread if it bugs you so much. Let's be honest, it was probably the most active thread and not only from our 2 resident bucks.

Well, that question has been answered, hasn't it? Since the ohio thread exists, then I guess we have room for our Nebraska friends, as well as the Spartan fans.

Honestly, if the ohio contingent behaved the way that the Nebraska fans do, there would be no issue. Our Nebraska guys have always been respectful of our forum, and our rules. For the longest time we did not have any MSU fans, but now, I guess we've picked up a couple. So, I guess it stays. I have no issues with the two MSU guys in here.

As I stated in the ohio thread, that was my final post there. For my part, I will not post there, and I will not moderate the thread. I don't care what anyone says in there, and I don't want to hear any complaints about it. Its there, it stays, and its going to be a free-for-all. I'll be marking it as read.

One thing I really liked about what Jon has just done is that he's listened to the views of the forum and respected the opinions of others. I think most moderators in most forums do it that way -- they view themselves as a representative of the group, rather than viewing themselves as entitled to force an unpopular decision on it. Kudos to you for that, Jon.

There's a lot I like about you, linesman, but your tendency to ignore the wishes of most of us is frustrating. Often you take that even a step further and criticize people for expressing their displeasure. That's not very nice at all. I think your new approach of staying out of the OSU thread is the right one, and I hope that works out well for all of us.

That said, the thread is marked as closed for me right now. I would like to post a thanks to Jon in it.
