Amazon has started their Black Friday sales and there are some great deals to be had! As you shop this holiday season, please consider using the forum's Amazon.com link (listed in the menu as "Amazon Link") to add items to your cart and purchase them. The forum gets a small commission from every item sold.

Additionally, the forum gets a "bounty" for various offers at Amazon.com. For instance, if you sign up for a 30 day free trial of Amazon Prime, the forum will earn $3. Same if you buy a Prime membership for someone else as a gift! Trying out or purchasing an Audible membership will earn the forum a few bucks. And creating an Amazon Business account will send a $15 commission our way.

If you have an Amazon Echo, you need a free trial of Amazon Music!! We will earn $3 and it's free to you!

Your personal information is completely private, I only get a list of items that were ordered/shipped via the link, no names or locations or anything. This does not cost you anything extra and it helps offset the operating costs of this forum, which include our hosting fees and the yearly registration and licensing fees.

Stay safe and well and thank you for your participation in the Forum and for your support!! --Deborah

  • Heh.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

    • Mods - you have a PM with what I believe will be the best solution.

      • Geezer and I got a verbal run in. We've publically exchanged apologies and put it behind us. Doubt if an issue is going to happen again. Just thought I'd put forth an example.
        Correct and correct.

        • Liney you probably have been as angry at me (or even more) for all the stupid crap I used to post, I don't agree with banning a regular poster for 15+ years. Talent has the best insight to recruiting along with WM Tiger. I think Buchanan has a good rap on this whole deal, how many times have you told people Stans a really nice guy in person?

People need to cool down, have thicker skin its not real life IMO

I think it's pretty simple. Stan once said the same thing to me Talent said to you. When I was the victim of Stan, I got a lecture about how he was a nice guy. When YOU are the victim, however, suddenly someone has to be banned? Obviously it's a little silly. You should be able to see how blowing off someone's concerns is going to make them less sympathetic to you when you have the same problem.

All that aside, it's fine that we're likely going to see this storm blow over, but there will only be more to come. It was easy to get a long under RR and Hoke, when The Game wasn't really a contest. The stakes are going to get higher and the windows for conflict more frequent. Even amongst those of you who go back 15-20 years, tempers flare. I think Jeff has it right -- the way the forum is moderated has to be better. That change should come before we've really and truly got something to argue about. I would like to see a move to a rules-based system. Make the rules clear enough so that there's no need for interpretation. Post them somewhere easy to see. Make the penalties for infractions clear.

                • Sorry to those of you who found OP and my bit a waste of space. I was highly entertained as I'm sure OP was, and others were as well. I think we did our best to keep it contained. But it's worth a mention because that's a classic case of what a subjective moderator linesman was. The words ``gay'' and ``moron'' were banned, and I respected that ban only to see linesman himself break his own rule multiple times. Often enough he did it in the days or hours after one of the forum's quarterly administrative meltdowns. I'm not in the guy's head, but it sure looks to me like he might have been doing it just to see if he could wind me up. Flouting his own powers here as moderator. Playground stuff. Once he even dared me to get upset about it. I found that to be a sad commentary.

It's clear that linesman really values being moderator -- whenever it's suggested that he give up those powers and join the ranks of regular posters he immediately threatens to leave the forum wholesale, and most of us respond to that in just the way he wants. I don't see any way how this manipulative bullshit is a positive for the community here, but that's just me. I know many people credit him with the civil atmosphere here, but increasingly I'm minded to give credit to the group as a whole, instead of to one person. The OT thread's a great case. Apart from the odd time or two involving Geezer, who is also in some ways the most open-minded person here, linesman has been the worst-behaved person in that thread. I think the credit for the strength of the forum goes to not just linesman but to all of you regulars going back to the WXing days. I think a new moderation approach that reflects the strength of the core group would be appropriate.

                  • There are many forums on the Internet, 4chan and "SomethingAwful's" forums being notable examples. One time or another, you've probably used at least one internet forum in your time on the internet. Forums can be a great place to chat, as...

Good advice for most everyone here.

                    • Hack,

You and OP were entertaining at times but just as often annoying. It seemed IMO it was more playful than malicious. Your guys' discussions taking up multiple discussions where they didn't really belong was more of an issue than anything.
