It is to me. I deleted a few of Talent's posts before I was even aware of his dust-up with Liney. My patience is spent with having to sift through the resident Buckeye's opinion on all things Michigan football in every thread. This is a Michogan forum first and foremost. If I wanted to read a bunch of sass directed at my team and their fans, I'd go to Bucknuts.
At one point Liney said he would move anything like this to the OlieO thread (you know, moderate)...I think it would work well, then if the rest of us don't want to read his shit we don't have to, while his worthwhile stuff is still here.
Well, I have known Talent for 19 years. Many others here about as long, including you, Liney. I have been a mod and a forum owner at many places almost since the beginning and I have banned a grand total of one person. Coincidentally that person posts HERE now under a slightly different name. Back when I did it, Talent talked me down from the banning him and the decision was reversed. He wisely reminded me that this is a make-believe land of monickers and user pics and none of it is real or to be taken too seriously.
Anyway...
I think in the end it depends on what kind of forum you want. Mandated echo chamber and homer board, harshly restricted freedoms, loosely moderated, or wide open free-for-all.
It has been my observation that loosely moderated was usually the best, but that's just my opinion, man...
Talent can be acerbic but he adds value. He knows football and politics and can defend himself as he opines on both. Has he too harshly taken you to task? Probably, but you have moved or deleted his stuff for being off topic or whatever while other such off-topic content often slides. So, with this (as with many things) the truth lies somewhere in between.
I think it is a horrible mistake to ban him, a mistake you will probably regret, but my degrees and allegiances lie with another school and I have been reminded that this is a forum for Michigan fans so I don't feel like an actual forum member on equal footing here, so no ultimatums or demands from me. In the words of Mike Tyson, I'll just quietly fade into Bolivia.

And yet, even when I simply MOVE something to another thread, I get cursed out for it. It happened just this past week. I can't even do THAT without getting grief for it.
I've even removed myself from threads so that others would feel free to post in any way they chose. How many "awful" moderators do that?

Let me take the easy one first. I've found that recently, I have more in common with him politically, than not. He will probably still vote differently from me, but that's America. So, none of his political views are a problem as far as I'm concerned. I basically leave that thread alone, for Jeff and Mike to moderate.
I know that Mr Talent can be entertaining. I've laughed at his humor, and the fact that he's been here for at least 15 years bears out the fact that we've been hospitable to him. Probably moreso than any of us would be treated at Bucknuts.
The problem for your friend, is that he demands the right to make crude remarks to me and others in here, and he believes that this should just be 'part of the game'. Well, its not. Paul S is a very good friend of mine. Our kids know each other. Paul is my friend before he is an OSU fan. When your friend tells me I should sodomize my friend, .. I'm sorry... but that offends me, and it should offend everyone in here.
And this is not the only time he's made these types of comments to me. He's done so repeatedly over the years, and at the advice of the mods, I've let them "roll off my back", and allowed him to stay.
No more.
So, maybe you can talk with your friend, and see if you can get him to change the way he posts. As of now, he's on the queue to be banned, and as far as I'm concerned, its final.
I'm sure the other Michigan fans here agree with me, and would like you to stay. But if you choose to leave, I wish you well. You're welcome to return whenever you choose. I've always enjoyed your contributions, and you'll be missed.
Well, Liney, I don't think this is right. So, please remove my name from the SEC forum. I will leave you in peace. At least for now. Perhaps detente can be achieved. And if M and Bama ever meet in a bowl or I get bored I will do a drive-by or two, but I will take enough of a leave that "my" thread should be mothballed.
