  • Instead of a public process with lots of people deciding, it will be a secret process with a few people deciding. The people who think that this is going to eliminate controversy are kidding themselves. The reason why a selection committee "works" in basketball is because the tournament is so bloated that when somebody gets screwed, it's just noise.

    • We'll go back to polls, 'rankings' once a #5 ranked team is taken ahead of a #4 ranked team.

      • Bingo. Or they expand to 8. But then #9 will bitch.
        Shut the fuck up Donny!

        • Thinking of scenarios where the selection committee doesn't flop, I'm at a loss. They'll pick the top 4 every year in the polls and when they don't, everyone panics and the system gets tweaked. Wouldn't surprise me to see a scenario where there are multiple #4's (different polls) and the committee has to choose one, no win situation for them. We'll end up with a transparent BCS type ranking system again in less than 5 years.

          • IMHO...what we need is 4-5 superconferences...winners AQ. 3 at large that can be picked by a selection committee. 8 teams. STFU.

                • The conferences aren't being formed for the purpose of making future playoffs less controversial.

                  • They are doing it to lockout the MAC, Sun Belt, MWC, C-USA, Big East, etc.

                    • They aren't doing it for that either.

                          • Texas has called an emergency Board of Regents meeting for tomorrow regarding "legal matters related to athletics personnel". Speculation that Deloss Dodds (their AD) could be in hot water.

The rumored story is this...Bev Kearny, Texas' longtime women's track coach, was fired a few weeks ago for having an affair with one of her athletes way back in 2002. She has since sued the university and in the process of discovery it's now going to be revealed that Major Applewhite had an affair with a student, possibly a student trainer, during prep for the 2009 Fiesta Bowl. Applewhite was married at the time and his wife was 9 months pregnant.

Problem for Texas and Dodds is that it appears that when they discovered that their black track coach slept with a student, and was apparently gay, they fired her. When they discovered their beloved, white, married OC was sleeping with a student, they sent him to counseling and froze his salary for 9 whole months. Also, rumored that the BOR was never even told about the Applewhite situation. Could find out more tomorrow. Super Bowl Sunday is a great day to release potentially damaging news.

                              • Let's see... since the Walt Johnson Cheating and the "We Are The Joneses" confrontation with Nebraska, the Texas Athletic Department has had this happen:

                                - Three sex scandals
                                - Football program crashes to mediocrity
                                - Basketball program imploding (currently 1-6 in conf)
                                - Baseball program slumping
                                - Longhorn Network a national joke
                                - Big 12 sinking in performance & relevance
Grammar... The difference between feeling your nuts and feeling you're nuts.
