  • NCAA has a minimum attendance policy for Div I football which they don't enforce, a lot of MAC, Sun Belt, WAC and MWC teams don't belong in Div I.

    • Yep, that's what the deal was the last time around. The NCAA told Eastern that their attendance had to improve if they wanted to stay in a BCS conference. They may be headed to a "subdivision" soon. They have been selling all their tickets as general admission $5.00 for years now. That's what you pay to get into a HS game around here.

      • Yeah but there are at least 15 other Div I programs that are at that level with Eastern.

Not sure about that. I think EMU is consistently at or near the very bottom of FBS. Pepsi is a corporate sponsor of theirs and bails them out by buying up over 5,000 tickets that no one ever actually uses. The NCAA also does not distinguish between tickets sold at face value and tickets practically given away.

          • No, not at Eastern's pathetic level but below the NCAA, minimum attendance level.

            • The SEC should invite Eastern Michigan to join so that it can capture the lucrative Midwest markets.

              • Sounds like Maryland & Rutgers will deliver the entire states of NJ, Maryland along with NYC & DC...

Sorry, it's not a zero sum game, with the BTN in place the B10 has avenues of extracting revenue (carriage fees) the Big East and ACC don't. These schools also add 'inventory' to the BTN, which means we'll be seeing Thursday night games (after byes) on ESPN, BTN.

                • And night games in November.

                  • In a move surprising no one, Auburn has fired Gene Chizik.

Bit more unexpected: NC State has fired Tom O'Brien after 6 mediocre but mostly bowl-eligible seasons

                    • Just think of how rich the conference will be when we invite San Diego State and Houston so that we can capture those two markets.

                      • Yes yes, Maryland is no better than Eastern Michigan or Houston. We've got it. Kick out PSU and Nebraska, take us back to 10, only one team goes bowling

                        • I still think Syracuse and Pitt would have been better choices.

Yes, I understand that the B1G Network wants access to NYC/Wash DC area cable companies, but those two would have been better competition wise.

The first time OlieO or Michigan has to go play a Thursday night game at Rutgers in November is going to bring a howl from the fans and alumni like we've never heard before.

                          • This move sounds like it caused exactly what Delaney hoped, an ACC conference that has a handful of the stronger universities looking to jump ship. Rumors that GT, Virginia, VT, Clemson, FSU, Miami, have been calling the B10, SEC, Big XII.

                              • re: Michigan & Ohio in opposite sides of the conference, everyone is for it except Ohio & M.

Why? Because everyone wants to guarantee a game against them and nobody wants them both in the same division and have to beat both of them to win their division.
