  • "Heh. That very well could be. The failure of his tenure here definitely was, albeit to a lesser extent, because of institutional interference."

Yeah, Mary Coleman's insistence that Richrod hire Robinson as DC and Lloyd recruiting all those midgets doomed the career of the most brilliant football coach in the country! UM's loss is AZ's treasure!

    • Stan, are you using facts and logic again?

      • Stan you should have edited out of that quote ``albeit to a lesser extent''. You'd have a more effective argument. I've never said that RR isn't the primary culprit. But I also don't go in for a reduction of the story to the extent where there are no lessons for UM's athletic department to learn from it. There are, and I hope they do for the sake of the program's future success.

Kelly seems to do that whether we win or lose...also seems to bother Michigan fans more than Notre Dame fans.

BTW, what do you think of the Gholson Reece competition, or was ther ever one? I thought Reese looked solid in the wining drive.
Golson is the starter and I'm pretty please with him to date. He's still too green to do a good job of recognizing coverages and adjusting, which is Rees' greatest asset. With < 2 minutes and an empty backfield, Kelly took a hell of a risk, but obviously made the right call.

          • Thanks Clash. Just funn'n you.

I think both teams are going to be in a Groove in two weeks.

            Gonna be a great game.

Just keep in mind there is only one team I loath more than osu and you're a fan of it.

            • I think it'll be a great game too...has been for the last three, though I'm wanting a different outcome.

Don't know how much of a groove we'll be in. The injury bugs swarmed us yesterday. Lost seven starters during that game. Golson's hand is really a thumb issue and isn't supposed to be a factor going into this week. Big losses are Kapron Lewis-Moore, our Sr. DE, Jamoris Slaughter our Sr. Safety, Tyler Eifert, our Sr. TE and Soph. OL Ishaq Williams. Other losses were Soph. WR Davaris Daniels and Kicker Nick Tausch.

Kelly has come out and said none of the injuries are season ending and/or will require surgery...but other than Golson, he hasn't said who will be available for MSU. Our guys are already beat up. Navy is always physical and Purdue was suprisingly so yesterday. State is usually the most physical game of the season, so we're carrying some health concerns right now.

EDIT: Tyler Eifert and Jamoris Slaughter were cleared for full contact this afternoon. Kapron Lewis more has some kind of ankle strain and should be ready for State. Those three would be huge for us.

                • Posted at the Megasite about this, but there is a hot rumor circulating SEC boards today about another Charles Robinson article coming out this week. A sort of exposee on Memphis HS football and dirty recruiting there. Supposedly the two schools who will look the worst are Mississippi State and Auburn.

                      • Just a horrible performance today from Virginia Tech against an inspired and much-improved Pittsburgh team. The offense struggling was not a great surprise-- they were bad last week against Austin Peay, and with so few proven play-makers, their first road game was always going to be a challenge. But VT's defense made this Pittsburgh offense look like one of Paul Chryst's vintage Wisconsin offenses. They gave up about 250 yards to Pitt's tailbacks(who are really good, and finally got a chance to show it), couldn't get much pass rush, and were consistently knocked off the line of scrimmage. Pittsburgh's offensive line was dominant nearly the entire game. Plus, VT suffered key injuries to starting LB David Wang and their best defensive player, CB Kyle Fuller.

VT has proven in the recent past that a September loss, even a bad one, does not have to define a season. This one, though, might have exposed this team. They haven't had a consistent running game through three games now, the receivers are inconsistent, and Logan Thomas is having to press to make plays, which cost VT dearly today. Maybe VT needed to get embarrassed in order to improve this season. That's the only potential positive coming from this one for Virginia Tech.
