Years don't line up exactly, but it gives you an idea for comparison. Top is Nebraska's 08-09 budget bottom is Texas' 06-07.




The two major differences that immediately jump out are the donations/contributions that has already been mentioned. The other is their arena. The Frank Irwin Center accounted for 14% of their overall athletic revenue. So they use it for their sports, but they are also bringing in the big time tours and booking that as athletic revenue it looks like. http://www.uterwincenter.com/events/index.html If you account for the arena revenue and the difference in donations, the two budgets are nearly equivalent, so those two things appear to be the biggest differences.

Ticket revenue from ~$36 million to $56.7 million, contributions/donations from $26.5 million to $37.1 million and Royalties advertising and sponsorships (will go higher with ESPN deal) from $9.7 million to $22 million all over the 5 year period. I have no idea what the hell they did over the past 5 years to see such sharp increases in each category.

Arrested Hurricanes linebacker tells cops: 'I'm a UM football player ... I'll get out of it'

CORAL GABLES — After a disturbance at a Coconut Grove bar on St. Patrick's Day night, Miami Hurricanes linebacker Ramon Buchanan tried to head butt a police officer, then, after being taken to the ground, said: "I'm a U.M. football player and I don't give a ---- what you do. I'll get out of it. ---- the police," according to an arrest report released Tuesday.

Buchanan, 21, who started last season for the 'Canes, was charged with resisting a police officer with violence and battery on a police officer, firefighter or emergency medical care provider, both of which are felonies. He was arrested around 1:30 a.m. at Fat Tuesday's at 3015 Grand Ave. after he had caused a disturbance in the men's bathroom of the restaurant, according to the report.

After The Palm Beach Post broke the story Monday, Hurricanes coach Al Golden said that Buchanan has been suspended indefinitely.

"We are aware of Ramon's situation and we are disappointed," Golden said in a statement. "This is out of character for a young man who has been a positive influence in our program. He is contrite and apologetic for the situation and is currently taking the appropriate actions towards resolution."

After police arrived at the restaurant and detected a "strong scent of an alcoholic beverage" on Buchanan, the football player was ordered to leave the restaurant by a police officer, the report states.

After being ordered to leave three times, Buchanan said: "No, ---- you. I ain't leaving!"

After the 5-foot-10, 185-pound Buchanan was told he was under arrest, he pulled away from police and "tensed his arms to evade arrest," the report states.

After being placed in a chair in a security office, Buchanan charged toward an officer but was redirected. Buchanan then began to "thrash his body and attempted to head butt" an officer. Buchanan then spat on the officer's palm. After not obeying further commands from the officers, Buchanan was then taken to the floor.

That's when he said: "I'm a U.M. football player and I don't give a ---- what you do. I'll get out of it. ---- the police."

Buchanan also is accused of three misdemeanors - disorderly conduct, resisting a police officer without violence and trespassing.

Buchanan is believed to be the first UM player arrested since quarterback Robert Marve was charged with two misdemeanors in October 2007 in Coconut Grove after he punched a car mirror and then tried to elude police.

Marve transferred to Purdue in May 2009.

While Randy Shannon was fired as UM coach in November after compiling a 28-22 record over four seasons, he was credited with helping clean up a program that had seen its share of arrests.

Miami resumes spring practice Tuesday after taking last week off for spring break.

The arrest comes on the heels of reports that six UM players have been suspended for the 2011 season opener against Maryland for undisclosed reasons.

The six players include Seantrel Henderson, the 6-foot-8, 345-pound freshman All-American who is expected to start at left tackle this fall.

The other five players allegedly suspended are defensive backs Keion Payne and Devont'a Davis, linebacker Kelvin Cain, running back Storm Johnson and defensive lineman Dyron Dye.

Golden has not commented on the suspensions.

A court hearing for Buchanan has been scheduled for 9 a.m. April 18 before Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Jorge Rodriguez-Chomat.

Last season, Buchanan started 10 games and was fifth on the team with 54 tackles, including eight for a loss, and an interception.

A native of Palm Bay, Buchanan played mostly on special teams as a freshman in 2008 before starting two games as a sophomore in 2009.

That's a mistake. Buchanan's listed on Miami's official roster as 6'1", 222. The article possibly confused Ramon Buchanan with former Cane and current Washington Redskin Philip Buchanon, who is about 5'10", 185.
