          • Lol the point spread swings for Missouri vs Ohio State. Ohio State opened as a 6.5 favorite. It went to Missouri -2.5. Now it’s Ohio State -5.5.

            It’s a tricky decision.
I could hedge by picking Ohio State. Guarantees a win either way. Ohio State loses or it’s a correct pick.
OR I could pick Missouri. That have a cake and eat it too saying. This will probably be my choice and Ohio State will win. Rooting for Cody Schrader is fun though …

            • Egads .. the Mizzou v OSU game is bad. Really bad.

              3-0 OSU at the half.

Neither offense can do anything. And lots of crap flying between both teams.

Not sure why Mizzou and OSU would have heat between them, but oh well...

And Ryan Day. Running up and down the sidelines begging for calls. The man looks like he's desperate for a big win.

              Just my impartial observation.

Observations from The Pop Tarts Bowl a.ka. The Essence of College Football.

Holy shit. I am not sure how to describe the Pop Tarts promotion that ruled the day. I want to say surreal, but that is not a big enough word for it.

It was a 4 hour long fever dream.

The giant Pop Tart coming out of a toaster in pregame was just the tip of the iceberg. It was loud and obnoxious and permeated throughout the game. Every fucking break had some kind of Pop Tart promotion. From CGI pop tarts superimposed over fan's faces on the big screen to a DJ? playing music and screaming the praises of the toaster pastry and telling everyone how much fun it all was.
During the trophy presentation, they put the giant Pop Tart mascot back into the toaster as the DJ tried to get everyone to chant "Toast the Mascot!" "Toast the Mascot!"

It was absolutely insane. BTW, the mascot's name was Strawberry.

I said earlier that we went because my wife's great nephew is a NC State walk on. He is number 94, Cole Overton. He is a redshirt freshman, one of two walk ons that made the team. He is a little over 6'6" and started the year at about 250. He is up to 270 now. He is a damn big kid.
He did not see the field this year, but the coaches told him that he does not have to try out for the team next year. He has a spot. We are all proud of him, for sure.

We got there about 4 hours early because my wife wanted to spend time with her niece and her family and they all wanted to be there when the team walked into the stadium.
Seeing the big grin on Cole's face as he saw us all there as he was walking into the stadium with the team was the highlight of the day and made the trip worthwhile.

                  The game:

There were 31000 fans in the 60000 seat stadium with there being about a 50/50 fan split. The KState fans seemed to be much more into the game, partly because KState pretty much controlled the game, but probably just as much because they are a better football school. (a cgvt observation based in no part on anything other than my perception ;) )

Neither team was very good but it appeared that KState seemed to be better coached and better prepared over all. The difference, though, was QB play. Avery Johnson was electric. He's fast, shifty and a decent passer. Even so, if NC State had a QB that could throw the ball they would have won the game. You could tell that NC State didn't trust Brennan to make good decisions and limited what they allowed him to do. There were a lot of one receiver routes and short quick routes, probably designed to keep Brennan from fucking up.
Each team had a long run on a fake punt. NC State scored a TD on theirs. KState's fake punt completely changed the game. NC State was hanging tough, but after the fake punt, it felt as if it was going to take some lucky breaks for NC State to have a shot.

Sadly, I never did see a real pop tart. *sigh*

                  • Assuming these scores hold and FSU doesn’t pull off the bowl game upset of the century, I will be 30-6 and tied for 1st in ESPN’s bowl mania. 1st place in the First Take pool. Does that mean Stephen A gives me a bag of cash? 😂

Does anyone have a good read on the Barstool bowl? Wyoming vs Toledo. Leaning Wyoming for a few reasons:
                    - Wyoming motivated to win a bowl game for their head coach that’s retiring.
                    - Toledo backup QB.
                    - Two underdogs would have already won today. 4 of the last 5 underdogs winning. Surely Vegas doesn’t get another favorite wrong in Wyoming…

                    • lol... Penn State getting kicked by Ole Miss.

Sorry, I have no interest in rooting for any Big Ten team.

All their coaches and AD's wanted Harbaugh punished before any investigation could begin. I won't forget that. Other M fans should remember that too.

                      • Cody,

I always assume Wyoming is gonna win against a comparable team if the line is close. Playing, practicing, living, at a 7000+ elevation gives them a second half advantage.

                          • It’s apparently on The CW Sports channel. Whatever that is…

I don’t mind the Barstool Sports commentary. It’s like you’re watching a sports game at a bar with at least one casual (Portnoy). Toledo fans should rightfully be annoyed. Seems like they’re commentating the game like they have huge bets on Wyoming.

It’s a different viewing experience than the norm.
