  • The obliterated LSU at LSU.

@LSU, vs UAT, @Pitt, vs Florida. That’s better than any one-loss team. Oh, and their only loss was at Georgia.

    • Pac 12 champ (USC, UCLA, or Oregon) will add 2+ more quality wins, their resumes so far are mostly unimpressive but with them playing each other; they'll add a lot more to their resume. Unlike Tennessee whose resume is entirely behind them. To date, Tennessee is the best 1-loss team in the country (wins over Bama, LSU) and by a good bit. I also value the conference championship more than most...

For example, USC's best win is, uhm, nobody. But they'll play UCLA, Notre Dame, and Pac 12 North winner (Utah or Oregon), similar for UCLA, Oregon... That said, there is a very good chance the Pac 12 champ ends up with 2-losses as they still have a lot of games to play between each other which opens up the door for Tennessee who is my #5.

      • Right. P12 MAY get in if it’s a 1-loss team. Oregon is probably best bet. And it’s hard to get past the asskicking they took from Georgia.

        • Yeah, Oregon I've as the best Pac 12 team and they need to win out; its not an easy schedule left. More likely than not, Pac 12 champ has 2-losses and the door is open for Tennessee.

Michigan, Ohio State loser needs to root for TCU to lose twice, Texas, Baylor on the road (both tough games), Iowa State at home and a Big XII CG. Pretty tough remaining schedule for TCU, I've got them at 2 more losses.

          • Big XII & Pac 12 champs both having 2 losses could open up the door for either Clemson or Michigan, Ohio State loser.

                • But the Committee loves them some SEC. They'll take a 1-loss SEC team over any 1-loss team from any other conference. This has been proven in the past. Especially if that SEC team's loss was not recent. They'll be very forgiving of Tennessee for losing at Georgia. They won't be forgiving of the M v OSU loser. They'll consider that one to be an "elimination" game.

                  • Well, again, Tennessee will have much better wins than the OSU-M loser. This isn’t up for debate. The objective pick is EASILY Tennessee.

And, FWIW, the two times the CFP put a 2nd SEC team in, the 2nd SEC team won it all. So, you know, they were right.

And, FYI, when they go to 12 and 3 or 4 SEC teams make it and the final four is determined on the field you are going to routinely see 2 and 3 SEC teams making final four. The SEC has the most talent, by far. Make your peace with it.

                    • I mean, we can sit here and argue UTK vs TCU or Oregon, but if they all got in and they played, UTK would be favored by 7-10 (at least).

                      • I think a 12 team playoff is going to routinely have some first round upsets. But the top four will be protected with a bye, so their road will be a little easier.

                        • The SEC is going to dominate a 12-team playoff.

                          • BTW, I wish all of that wasn’t true. Fuck the SEC. But it is.

Ohio State is the only B10 program with talent to match elite SEC teams, but they’re hamstrung with a pedestrian coach. M has great coaching, but not enough talent. And those are the only two B10 schools remotely close to competing on an elite level.

I guess USC will be in B10 in 2024, and they may at least get into the OSU/M level.

                            • At least it will be possible for the B1G to get more than one into the field. I'd be fine with seeing a lower qualifying SEC team like Florida being required to play somewhere like Ann Arbor or Columbus in mid-December.
