Everyone else seems to think that their win over Michigan was like Oberlin coming to Michigan and winning by two TD's.

But, as I said, whatever. The bullseye on M's back is a heavy load at times.
One thing that App State did well when they were DII was pluck guys off of the back of rosters of D1 teams. Back then they didn't have to sit out if they went from D1 to DII. The 2007 App State team put three players in the NFL. They were a very good team, but...
There is no fucking way a top 5 team should have lost to them.

I know this irritates you Jeff, but I'm irritated whenever App State does something big, and immediately everyone and their grandmother starts splashing M v App State 2007 video all over the place. Nobody, including most M fans on this board, gives App State credit for being a doggone good football team in 2007. A very good football team, that rightly came in and defeated a fat and sloppy (entitled?) Michigan team. I'm the only one I know that acknowledges how good App State was, and how silly it was for M to take them so lightly.

I think yesterday's result in College Station was at least equal to what App State did at Michigan, and maybe even more significant. ATM (was) ranked #7, but App State didn't even win its own conference last year. As posted earlier, not only did App State win, but they pushed ATM all over their own field all game long. At least they struggled to beat Michigan, and needed a blocked FG at the end to seal the victory.

I'm the only one on this board that gives App State credit where its due. Everyone else seems to think that in 2007, they were a crappy team that had no business beating a P-5 team.

He's going to have a long wait. CRD isn't going anywhere.

        • The Toledo loss was a much worse loss.

Yeah that's the thing. If he's waiting for the OSU job, he's going to be waiting for a long time. NFL seems like a possibility. SEC is likely out since he could have already gone there. That means that it's either the NFL or one of UM/PSU/OSU. And I feel like he probably could have gone to the NFL already if he wanted to.

            • He might just like being at Cincinnati and it's going to take a big offer and nice job to pry him away. Having a 12 team tournament in the future makes it easier to stay at Cincy

Both were horrific. The difference was that the App State loss was with a team that was essentially the same one that was a bad penalty away from playing for a MNC the season before. The other was with a RRod squad that was still in disarray. Neither one ever should have happened, but at least the Toledo loss could be explained- even though that disarray never should have happened either.

But yeah, it's been over a dozen years. That's way to long to get it out of the system, especially since a lot of embarrassments have been served up elsewhere (VaTech tossing to William and Mary and TWICE to ODU, etc..). It's too bad that ohio hasn't had one really bad one (Purdue doesn't count).

                • The Appalachian State loss is the worst loss for the program of all time. There's no contest there. The Toledo loss isn't close. I wouldn't even rank it in the Top 10. By 2009, that loss was already a distant memory. 2018 OSU beats the Toledo loss too. Our grandkids will watch clips of the Appy State loss. It was a disgrace and an embarrassment that will last generations. App State was a I-AA team that actually lost two games that year. Georgia Southern and Wofford did what Michigan couldn't. Realistically, they were probably as good as a middling to bad MAC team. They would have gotten run out of the stadium by anyone else in the Top 25.

Appy st. had an excellent dual qb. and their offense was as good as half of the B1G at the time. So them scoring on UM was not surprising. Cept 40+ was bad. My concern was UM not keeping up with their offense as it turned out to be one of UM's best. They made mistakes but yeah, that team was not as bad as some claimed here.

                    • A final point on Appy State in 2007 -- they weren't even a historically great D-1AA team. It wasn't the Pennington/Moss Marshall team or one of the Georgia Southern teams in the mid 90s or some of the more recent NDSU teams. The lost two regular season games to FCS teams and played a couple really close playoff games on their way to the title.

IMO, the 2006 ASU team was better. They went 14-1 and obliterated everyone in the playoffs. Of course, they lost by two TDs at a mediocre NCS team because, well, a great FCS team should lose to a decent FBS team.

Those are just the facts. You can't change them. I don't have a clue why a M fan would want to relive 2007. I really don't. But, whatever.

                      • NO M fan wants to relive that debacle.I was there and still had to have Jeff’s son remind me that it wasn’t some sort of Twilight Zone episode last night.

Like TDS, it’s the non- M fans that LOVE bringing it up. It’s hysterical, so we get it. We have to own it.

we DON’T have to expect, or accept, that something like that will ever happen again.
