  • Just root for Georgia to knock off Bama. That simple. Sorry BamaAlum. Georgia vs Bama is played before the M game. We will have an idea of the Playoff picture before kickoff.
Cincinnati or Oklahoma State are ideal as a 1st RD Playoff matchup.

Poor ND will be crushed if they make the Playoff given the Kelly news …

    • This will easily be the worst CFP on record. AND the championship game is in Indy. I mean, everything is coming up HARBAUGH!!!!!

      • If that's what the CFP ends up with - Alabama eliminated, Clemson and OSU already out - and a new set of participants in, that's a good thing for CFB.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

Team quality-wise, it's the worst, but finally there's some variety in there. I always thought that one of the unspoken reasons for the playoff was that people expected a wider variety of winners out of it, like what you get in basketball. But lately it has been OSU, SEC West team, Clemson, and a wildcard just about every friggin' year.

          • All the usual suspects will be back in the thick of the CFP race next season. Clemson just needs a QB. If they don't have one committed, they can likely get one in the portal. Bama/Saban aren't going away. Neither is OSU. Georgia will be there again.

The only usual contender I see that may be in trouble is Oklahoma. They've lost at least 6 commitments since Riley left, and they may not be done yet. A lot is going to depend on who they hire.

If ND picks up Fickell, they won't miss a beat, and may actually get better.

            • Not even a WC so much when you consider Oklahoma made it 4 times (I think).

Well, right. I was talking quality.

                • To be fair, there is still one Death Star this year instead of the usual three, and if UM, Cincy, and Okie State make it, they are legitimately wildcard caliber. It's just that there would be three wild cards this year instead of one.

                  • I predict that 2022 will be the last year of the 4 team format. They will have a 12 team field beginning in 2023. Top 4 seeds will get a bye, and the remaining eight will play first round games. The winners will be seeded to play those that were in a bye.

That's going to get at least 3 SEC teams each year.

Agree and I’m very happy about it!
1 seed Georgia is a very solid 1 seed. I think 2019 LSU is a tougher 1 seed and would be favored though.

The 2-4 seeds are down in quality. The parity is awesome though. For example, the 2020 Trevor Lawrence Clemson is probably a tougher 2 seed than M this season.

I guess I’m making a lot of assumptions because if you look at the point spreads in these games on Saturday… don’t rule out some upsets. Certainly possible!

                        • I'm not overly sold on Georgia. I think the 2019 LSU and 2020 UAT teams are both better. Those offenses were ridiculous. But, Georgia is still elite. However, this will be the first time there aren't two elite teams (IMO) and first time in a couple years the 2-3 game is a joke.

                          • The best 3 playoff teams ever, objectively and definitively:

                            1) 2014 OSU
                            2) 2014 Oregon
                            3) 2014 Bammer

                            • Georgia is currently -6' vs UAT. M might be the only team where that line is as close, and I don't think that'd be the case.

The absolute, unmitigated worst case scenario for M is if UAT beats Georgia. Then UAT is #1, M is #2 and Georgia is #3.

                              • Think Georgia would be favored by 7 to 9 vs M. In that range. Low over/under.

Hey, joke is on those powerhouse teams that couldn’t make the Playoff in a field that is perceived as weaker or more even than usual. The opportunity was there. Good for the teams that will take advantage of it.

2019 LSU is the best IMO. You look at their body of work and what those core players are doing in the NFL. Best offense in modern college history. Dave Aranda coaching the defense.
