That is the correct idea, but we would have to do an end around to get that result. We don’t really have the authority to remove or relegate other teams once they are Div1. The answer is to take the top 60 teams (or so), leave, and form a CFB premier league.

froot,
Oh, it doesn’t have to search for a problem. It’s been identified long ago. The problem is that >95% of G5 teams don’t belong at the top level and the consistency of schedules for the teams that do belong there is wildly inconsistent. Having a “premier league”, and limiting games to that new top 60 would help immensely. For example, Alabama plays New Mexico State next week. We have no business playing that game or SoMiss a few weeks back and god forbid a Mercer.

I figured you'd be in favor of something like that since you enjoy the NFL so much. A super league would be much closer to that and it would also mean no more tomato can games that nobody cares about.
I'd propose a 10 game conference schedule with 2 non-con games, one home and one on the road. Playing two P5 non-con games would double the amount most teams currently play and adding another conference game would mean Michigan would play Iowa or Purdue instead of NIU. Next year's non-con schedule is Colorado State, Hawaii, and UConn. That's an absolute slap in the face to season ticket holders.
On an unrelated note, I just noticed that we play AT MSU again next year?! So we're going to play there in back-to-back seasons twice in a decade?? So in addition to the above bullshit non-con schedule, Michigan will also be on the road against Sparty, OSU, and Iowa. Conference home games are against Maryland, PSU, UNL, Illinois, and Indiana. That might honestly be the worst home schedule I've ever seen.

That MSU schedule bit was the result of flipping the COVID season game to A2.
About the only good thing to say for playing tomato cans is that it provides a chance to provide the Big House experience to the kids, or anybody else who doesn't care so much about the competitive aspects of the actual game. Plus, there were plenty of cheap seats to be had for the September games, Season ticket holders end up getting the shaft, but we've been suckers to the U-M for so long that we kinda deserve it.
