  • That is the correct idea, but we would have to do an end around to get that result. We don’t really have the authority to remove or relegate other teams once they are Div1. The answer is to take the top 60 teams (or so), leave, and form a CFB premier league.

    • It's a solution in search of a problem.

Unless you really enjoy those games against Western Kentucky, Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, etc. I'd personally, like to see P5 teams play a 12 game regular season against other P5 teams.

Correct. I just meant to separate from the G5 in some general sense.

          • froot,

Oh, it doesn’t have to search for a problem. It’s been identified long ago. The problem is that >95% of G5 teams don’t belong at the top level and the consistency of schedules for the teams that do belong there is wildly inconsistent. Having a “premier league”, and limiting games to that new top 60 would help immensely. For example, Alabama plays New Mexico State next week. We have no business playing that game or SoMiss a few weeks back and god forbid a Mercer.

            • I would actually like for a super league commissioner to be in charge of scheduling for the Super 60 (or 64 or whatever).

              • I enjoyed the Western Kentucky game this year against MSU, probably the Spartans' second hardest opponent so far.

                Again I don't think it's a need really, I stand by what I said.

                  • I figured you'd be in favor of something like that since you enjoy the NFL so much. A super league would be much closer to that and it would also mean no more tomato can games that nobody cares about.

I'd propose a 10 game conference schedule with 2 non-con games, one home and one on the road. Playing two P5 non-con games would double the amount most teams currently play and adding another conference game would mean Michigan would play Iowa or Purdue instead of NIU. Next year's non-con schedule is Colorado State, Hawaii, and UConn. That's an absolute slap in the face to season ticket holders.

On an unrelated note, I just noticed that we play AT MSU again next year?! So we're going to play there in back-to-back seasons twice in a decade?? So in addition to the above bullshit non-con schedule, Michigan will also be on the road against Sparty, OSU, and Iowa. Conference home games are against Maryland, PSU, UNL, Illinois, and Indiana. That might honestly be the worst home schedule I've ever seen.

                    • Fuck you. Your surrender monkey fucking AD fucking Ohio State out of a home game against your boys last year. That is all.

                      • I think the conference system now is much worse than it was 20-30 years ago. I don't think having a 60 team premiere league of college would replicate the far superior NFL. As it is, the NFL schedule has problems with 32 teams and they play 17 games.

                        • It would still be a big step in the right direction of eliminating glorified scrimmages from the schedule.

That MSU schedule bit was the result of flipping the COVID season game to A2.

About the only good thing to say for playing tomato cans is that it provides a chance to provide the Big House experience to the kids, or anybody else who doesn't care so much about the competitive aspects of the actual game. Plus, there were plenty of cheap seats to be had for the September games, Season ticket holders end up getting the shaft, but we've been suckers to the U-M for so long that we kinda deserve it.

                            • I love how we swap a game with no fans in AA for one with a full stadium in EL. I swear we get exactly what we deserve.

Fair point about cheap games to take kids to but I'd still rather have more meaningful games.

Well I'm guessing there will be a "Big 64" with 4 Super Conferences of 16...then a second 64 of G5's and the FCS powers. Then a Division II and III.
