  • I'm terrified of the day that somebody like rutgers or Minnesota decides to adopt the triple option. if you're one of those guys, you've got nothing to lose.

    • I've read it's a tough transition on players and coaches who aren't fully immersed in it. IOW you can't just shift gears to the triple-option. It's much easier to run spready offenses that feature some power mixed in with a passing game that is executed by a QB who is fully immersed in that scheme.

Army and Navy, OTH, have been doing it for decades and it fits the athletes they recruit. I suspect that coaching stability at both USMA and the Naval Academy is also really good. It would take Rutgers years to transition players and coaches and fans and the guys paying the bills wouldn't go for it.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

Yep. Your D-line will limp for weeks after a game.

        • I don't like cut blocking any more than you do AA, but its legal if its done in the free blocking zone. Army and Navy have made their living running that style of offense with the cut blocking for many years now, and many games. Nobody in the NCAA has stepped up to say what they do is illegal. So, onward they go. I think all blocking at the knees or below should be eliminated, but that's just me.

          • I never said anything bad about cut blocks except maybe I hate seeing my team playing against a cut blocking team.

I played HS ball. We cut block more than we straight blocked. Also, as you may remember, Bryant ran the wishbone for about a decade. We were some cut blocking sons of bitches. I used to lmao at the opposing team’s d-line limping off the field at the end of the game.

One day they will make it illegal. That day is not today, though.

I agree. Its long overdue. It needs to be illegal at all levels of football, from the NFL down to the pee-wee levels of Pop Warner. Get rid of it.

Now, I don't think a block at the waist or hip should be eliminated. But direct shots at the knees needs to go.

              • I agree with that. The only thing that concerns me are the refs. Interior linemen end up low or on the ground on the LOS on just about every running play. To the over zealous ref, cut blocks (even when it’s really not a true cut) could be an easily abused flag pull.

                  • Both TCU and Baylor have their first games (this weekend) postponed due to too many covid cases. In the first case it was TCU that had all the positive tests — in the latter Louisiana Tech, Baylor’s opponent, was the guilty party.

Forde points out CUSA is really struggling. Rice has postponed its first two games and hasn’t even held a practice. Old Dominion canceled their season entirely. Southern Miss fires their coach after 1 game and MTSU looked like shit.

                    • I predict the collapse of CFB mostly outside the P5. Most of the smaller programs relative to the P5 struggle to keep their programs alive when things are normal. WIthout the pay-days of serving as scrimmages for the P5 programs, well, most of them, they can't survive. Even the non-rev sports are going to take a hit. It's awful that the continued reaction to the pandemic is destroying smaller athletic programs that are sometimes life-lines to higher education for a lot of high-schoolers. This is just another in the long list of destroyed social and economic sectors from the unwarranted hand-wringing over COVID.
